What does a day as a Project Manager at the largest media company in The Netherlands look like you might ask? I can give you a one page insight into my 5 month internship experience. I worked full-time with a team of Concept and Project Managers, who were all full of energy and passion for what they did. Once a week you have a team meeting where the whole team discusses any issues that would arise, and ongoing branded campaigns. This meeting is followed by a team lunch with your colleagues, where anything and everything is talked about. I was surprised how outgoing my colleagues were, and how many festivals they would attend, which was way more than me, considering I’m the student. I noticed that people at DPG Media are not just work friends, they all truly have friendships with one another, and often see each other outside of work. I wasn’t used to this, but this really makes work much more than just showing up and finishing tasks.
With the role as a Project Management intern I had to work alone on campaigns majority of the time, since you are in charge of a campaign idea that is sold to a client, where you further take over all contact with the client. I primarily worked for two brands, namely vtwonen and Ouders van Nu. Thus, I was constantly in contact with interior clients such as Trendiy and Karwei, and also Intertoys, Albert Heijn, Center Parcs, and many more for the other brand. Not only was I in constant contact with clients via mail, but as a Project Manager you also have the opportunity to assist on campaign shoots with clients such as Rituals, KPN, and Samsung.
People at DPG Media are warm and energetic, and make a workday feel like a day of hanging out with fellow friends. You are always guided, supported, and there are always people you can go to for help. It is a dynamic workspace, where people are not just colleagues, but friends, and work is not just work, but truly their passion.
Besides all the practical things I learned as a Project Manager, the thing that made the biggest impact on me were my colleagues. I never thought having an office job could be so fun and dynamic. But meeting people who know how to make the best out of situations, and doing something that they are passionate about, I definitely look forward to more experiences in the media world. I would definitely recommend this company to others. At this company you have the ability to work for a large variety of 60 brands, which consists of a large selection of magazines, tv channels, and radio stations. You choose!
