Reflections from My International Internship at WBCSD: Exploring Sustainability and Decarbonization in Amsterdam’s Energy Transition Campus

My internship at WBCSD, situated in Amsterdam North on the Energy Transition Campus, was not just an ordinary experience—it was a journey that broadened my horizons and equipped me with valuable skills and knowledge. From January to July 2024, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the dynamic world of corporate sustainability, engaging in diverse projects, and collaborating with inspiring individuals, and large companies from around the globe.

As I stepped into the office each day, I was greeted by an open environment fuelled by purpose and innovation. Surrounded by enthusiastic colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds, the international atmosphere at WBCSD was inspiring, reflecting the organization’s commitment to driving positive change on a global scale.

During my time at WBCSD, I dived deep into various projects that provided me with a lot of practical skills and in-depth knowledge. From drafting sustainability reports to developing communication strategies tailored for different audiences, each task allowed me to expand my skill set and gain hands-on experience in the field.

One of the highlights of my internship was the opportunity to learn about decarbonization strategies in-depth. Through workshops, seminars, and collaborative projects, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with decarbonization efforts. This knowledge not only enriched my understanding of sustainability but also instilled in me a sense of confidence to tackle future projects with a focus on decarbonization.

In addition to practical skills, my internship at WBCSD provided me with the opportunity to conduct independent research on the impact of health and well-being reminders in managerial communication. Drawing upon my experiences and insights gained at WBCSD, I explored the effects of incorporating these reminders on employee morale and engagement, contributing to the growing body of knowledge on workplace well-being.

As my internship journey comes to an end, I feel gratitude for the experiences and lessons learned. Looking ahead, I am excited to apply the skills and knowledge gained during my internship to future endeavours in sustainability and beyond. With a deeper understanding of corporate sustainability, decarbonization strategies, analytics and effective communication, I feel empowered to make a meaningful impact in the world. In conclusion, my international internship at WBCSD was a transformative experience that has shaped my personal and professional growth. As I embark on the next chapter of my journey, I carry with me the memories, skills, and insights gained during my time at WBCSD, grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a dynamic and impactful organization.
