Dear readers,
My internship journey at the tech recruitment agency Tech Rise People has come to an end, and I would love to share some insights about recruitment processes and, why not, some tips on what recruiters look for.
But first, a small introduction about myself and my role within Tech Rise. I’m Silvia, and I’m a communication science student pursuing a minor in Human Resources Management. I have experience in recruitment at ING, where I was a recruitment intern for the IT and Analytics traineeship programs. At Tech Rise, I had the chance to continue my journey in recruitment and learn more about its processes.
Today I am here to share some valuable lessons I learned from experienced recruiters I had the luck to work with:
- Some people underestimate the power a clean and simple resume holds. When writing a cv, especially if you have just like me, not much-working experience, don’t overdo it! I recommend checking the job descriptions of the vacancies you are interested in, individuating the keywords and customising your cv accordingly. This doesn’t mean you should lie! But if you believe your experience and educational background may be a good fit for the job, adding these keywords to your cv will increase the chances of getting a first interview. Keep in mind recruiters often scan through hundreds of CVs, and keyword search is often the first step in recruitment.
- Only write what you can justify and elaborate on! Being asked about a project you can’t explain during an interview is the beginning of your downfall.
- Recruiters love to talk, fellow introverts; gather all your courage and communication skills and nail the interview!
- Share your concerns and vulnerabilities with your interviewers; they don’t bite and will appreciate the transparency!
- It’s pretty easy to understand the company culture throughout your interview process. It’s okay to realize throughout an interview that the company culture is not a fit for you, don’t force a match where there is none. We all benefit from working in the right environment with the right people. Be yourself!
- Ultimately, if you don’t get as many interviews after applying to many companies, don’t give up! Look up people who already work at the company you like on Linkedin and try approaching them; they may refer you to HR.
I hope these insights will help some of you pull the job of your dreams, if not at least add something valuable to your preparation for an interview!!
Good luck!!
