Read this before you start a Social Media Internship at The Social Hub

AKA curating the social media brand facade for the first hybrid hospitality business in Europe

Eye-opening, unexpected, diverse: these three words best describe The Social Hub as a company.

But what exactly is The Social Hub? The Social Hub is a community present in 16 cities across Europe where students can live, travelers can stay at, guests can join weekly workshops, anyone can co-work, eat, and play: in short, hybrid hospitality.

In this blog post, I will answer some curiosities that I had before starting my internship, in the hope that these can help fellow colleagues make an informed decision.

What are the tasks of the social media intern at The Social Hub?

My umbrella task was to deliver targeted communication messages on social media according to brand guidelines. One thing I learnt is that one has to understand the personality of the brand before being able to create good content. I proposed ideas, created and published content on their global account. At times, I also strolled around Amsterdam and the two Hubs in West and City to film footage. For hero and hub campaigns, I was involved in brainstorms and collaborated with the Inbound Marketing team. I also managed the community of the global and all local accounts, addressed crisis communication and ensured that all questions from users found an answer. Every first of the month, I reported on the social media analytics of all The Social Hub accounts and Key Performance Indicators of the previous month.

What does an average day at The Social Hub as a social media intern look like?

On Mondays, I always arrived at the office 30 minutes before the start of the working day to fully enjoy my latte and the pastries provided by the office. The first thing on my agenda was community management of all accounts. Around 9:30 was the Inbound Team Meeting, where all team members share updates and their agenda for the rest of the week. After that, I used to spot good user-generated content to repost on the global page. I gave myself until my 11:30 lunch to think of creative ideas for content that I was asked to create weekly and to start creating a nice presentation to pitch to my team. After eating a delicious lunch at the office cafeteria, once the ideas got approved, I created content on Canva – which, believe me, takes a long time! – , wrote the copy (meaning the caption) and showed my team for approval. Once content is good to go, then I published it on the global page.

What is the most exciting piece of content you created?

I will name two! The first is the first small piece of content I created during my first week. It was an Instagram story designed as a 4 images 1 word game level (yes, I used the nostalgia heuristic!) where followers had to guess the next The Social Hub destination.

The second one is my first solo campaign for International Refugee Day in collaboration with NGO Movement on the Ground. It was exciting to get to know and communicate about their initiatives and sensitize people to donate.

I recommend a social media internship at The Social Hub Management B. V. to those who:

  • are very social and want to experience amazing work culture
  • are fascinated about and want to create social media hero, hub, and hygiene campaigns
  • are interested in sustainability, social impact, diversity and inclusion
  • are creative and would like to improve their social media copyrighting skills
