Online Marketing @ Violet88 – The first month

How to find an internship? A tip!

Let me start off with a tip that may be useful for you if you are still searching for an internship. A few months before the internship, when I was still in the searching phase myself, a friend advised me to create a post on LinkedIn as it had worked wonders for her before. I never post things on LinkedIn, so I had no idea what to put in there and how to format it, but luckily, she helped me with that as well.

I wrote a concise post, with the text “Is your organization looking for a driven, ambitious intern that wants to learn new things? Then I’d like to get in touch! Send me a connection invite to talk about the possibilities,” accompanied with a visual describing the internship timeframe and possible fields I was interested in. And it worked, I got several messages from companies that were interested! This was very useful as I now had several options, meaning I could choose which company I had the best feeling about.

How to survive the first week?

The first week of my internship was quite a challenge. As an introvert, I had to endure my social awkwardness for the first few days as I was still getting to know the colleagues. Luckily for me, the company is very informal and there are not that many colleagues, so the awkwardness went away quickly.

Another struggle I had was to occupy my days in a productive manner. A tip I have for upcoming interns if this happens, is to talk with your supervisor as quickly as possible to make a sort of ‘to do list’. Then you always have something to fall back to if you are feeling lost as to what to do. For the first week, I kind of just ‘let things happen’ and I can assure all of you that it is all going to be fine if you are still kind of finding your way at the start of the internship.

What did I do in my first month?

As I did not have any experience with Google Ads and SEO, I had to follow some tutorials to get started. This is what occupied me in the first period of the internship. After I became familiar with the tools, I have mainly been busy with optimizing existing Google Ads campaigns – both for my internship company itself as well as for their customers. I have also written some texts for customers to help their website rank organically on Google.

On the side, I have done several projects such as a competitor analysis for the company itself, to find out how competitors are positioning themselves and how they are communicating on their social media platforms. Another example of a side project is creating templates in Google Data Studio that the company can use when delivering a finished website to the customer. Google Data Studio is used to visualize all kinds of data about the customers’ SEO, ads, and social media performance into a dashboard. The idea of creating templates for this is to standardize the procedure of delivering these dashboards to customers. It is nice to be able to have these little projects on the side, as I am learning a lot of new things!

My first month has flown by… 4 more to go!
