Four months ago, I started a strategy consulting internship at MeMo2, a Kantar company, and let me tell you, it was anything but ordinary. From long days at the office to company paddle tournaments, rooftop parties, and more. Let me briefly explain what working at MeMo2, a Kantar company, is like. For the most part, my day started at 9 a.m., usually with a cup of coffee, checking the emails, and setting the agenda for the day. Each Monday I would have a prompt catch-up with my supervisor, which gave me an indication of how busy the week would be. On Mondays in the afternoon, the company would also do a catch-up meeting called week-start, where everyone would gather in a meeting room and discuss the main tasks to work on for the week. These tasks would usually consist of determining how busy our schedules were and if anyone needed help with their work or if they still had some time left to help others. We would also discuss if there were any important meetings, events, or presentations we should keep in mind for the near future. The week starts were very important for me since I was the only intern at the company for about 2 months, so whenever someone was too busy for the week and needed someone to take some work load off their hands, I was also happy to help them, which gave me a chance to work with a variety of people and numerous clients of the company as well as challenge myself on a variety of different tasks. Besides the busy Mondays, the rest of the week usually had a pretty similar structure. Every morning, I would first double check with my supervisor if there were any specific things or tasks that I should keep in mind for the day. Then I would proceed with my work until 12 p.m., when the whole office would get lunch, and we would all sit at a huge square table, which was a great opportunity for me to chat with my colleagues and get to know them. About once a month, there would also be a quiz lunch at the office. On that day, we would all get a free lunch, divide ourselves into groups, and compete against each other in a quiz. These quizzes were such a fun activity since they allowed me to get to know my colleagues in a more fun, slightly competitive way. After lunch, I would usually continue working until I got a bit tired. After which, I headed down the stairs to the café to get myself one of the best cookies in Amsterdam. Something sweet always gave me an additional energy boost and motivation in the afternoon to continue my work. At around 6 p.m., I would close my laptop for the day and either hang out with my colleagues for a bit or head home. As I said, most days weren’t anything special until Friday came. Fridays were always the days when something was taking place at the company. One time it was a paddle tournament in which the entire company participated, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Other times there were roof-top parties at the office, certain events, or simply just roof-top drinks with colleagues. Notice how I say rooftop so much; one could argue the company has one of the best views in Amsterdam.
