Being in my 20s means constant exploration, adventures, and experience-seeking.
That’s why I’m here, writing this blog as a Bound Studios intern.
My name is Adinda. I am a Communication Science student at the University of Amsterdam, and this is my first internship.
I started back in February with 0 work experience. I had nothing other than the knowledge I’ve obtained through university and life, and some amateur experiences that I’ve gained throughout my time as a board member in an organization. However, what really mattered was my strong motivation to learn. Hence why, Malu, the founder of Bound Studios decided to give me the opportunity to develop myself through this internship.
Now, I’m in my last week of internship. I’ve been working at Bound Studios for 6 months now. A lot of things have happened. I have laughed out loud, let out anger, shed tears, and most importantly, watched myself grow.
At Bound Studios, I was an All-Round Marketing & Sales Intern. This means that I had works piling up for me to complete every single week. Especially considering the organization is a small brand, I was given a lot of opportunities to take on responsibility for different projects and to explore new things that I was not previously familiar about. So, there was never a day where I would have time to stare into space and leave the office with nothing in my mind.
What was funny is that, whenever I talked about work with my friends who were doing their internships in bigger companies, the word that was most often brought up was “bored”. My friends were bored with their work. They said they would often have nothing to do in the office, and the only time that they had a task, they would complete it in a day. This was interesting for me because during the conversation, my head would be saying “god, I wish that I’m as bored as they are”. My long list of to-do’s was keeping me from being able to relate to them. However now, my perspectives have changed.
I realized that being an intern at Bound Studios was the perfect stepping stone for me, a person with no working experience but a big dream to have a successful career. When I have just started, I was as clueless as a newborn baby. Now, I know how to work with a variety of tasks, starting from content marketing production, research, e-commerce, to working on collaborations with other businesses. These experiences and knowledge were things I was looking for the most from an internship. Things I know I can utilize for my CV and future job interviews. Things I know I can utilize to develop into a better professional.
So if you are wondering if an internship at a small organization is worth it, it definitely is.
