When I began my internship at YoungCapital, I didn’t know what to expect. What I found was a dynamic environment filled with opportunities to learn and grow, surrounded by supportive colleagues who made every day enjoyable. For five months, I was immersed in the world of online marketing and talent acquisition, and here’s a glimpse into ìwhat I have learned throughout this journey.
My usual day started at 9 AM, easing into the morning with a catch-up meeting with my supervisor. These sessions were essential in my internship experience, as they would the tone for the day and provide me guidance on my projects. Afterward, I’d grab a coffee with available team members or fellow interns. These moments were more than just a caffeine fix; they were a chance to network, exchange ideas, and build friendships and I am proud to say still lasted outside of the office to this day.
From 10 AM to noon, my schedule was often busy with several tasks and occasional meetings. One of my key responsibilities was managing email marketing campaigns: this involved drafting engaging content, targeting the audience based on the client’s necessities, and run a language check for all the mailing content that had to be shared on the company’s databases for a total of nine countries. Every day, an average of ten mails would be sent to thousands and thousands of candidates present on the websites from all over Europe.
When it came to lunchtime, our office had a welcoming canteen on the ground floor where everyone would gather to eat. Whether it was sharing a healthy meal or ordering from a nearby pizza place, these moments were perfect for relaxing and connecting with colleagues on a personal level.
Post-lunch, I would sometimes dive into the heart of my school tasks as well. This typically involved working on my research report, attending tutorial meetings, and occasionally taking some time to focus on my own in one of the several meeting rooms available on the first floor.
One of the most exciting aspects of my internship was the variety of experiences. One afternoon, I might be deep into data analysis for a marketing report; the next, I’d be using my creative side to create engaging and on-brand email and website banners on demand of fellow interns or colleagues from multiple departments. This diversity kept me on my toes and ensured that no two days were the same.
Tips for Future Interns
Build Your Network: Take advantage of every opportunity to connect with people. Whether it’s during a coffee break or a team outing, building relationships can open many doors for your future career and provide valuable insights. Trust a girl, do not waste this opportunity!
Communicate Openly with your supervisor: If you’re feeling overwhelmed or not challenged enough, speak up with whoever is in charge of managing you. Personally, I found that expressing my interests and concerns in an honest way led me to experiencing new and more rewarding experiences taylored to what I like rather than only fulfilling impersonal tasks that anyone could do.
Stay Organized: With multiple projects and responsibilities, staying organized is crucial – keep track of your tasks and deadlines to ensure you’re always on top of your work. For me, Google Calendar was a life-saving tool in this sense!
All in all, my internship at YoungCapital was an authentic journey of professional and personal growth. I gained loads of hands-on experience in online marketing and recruitment strategies, learned the importance of teamwork, and made connections that will hopefully be of great help for building my career. For those about to start their internships, I hope you find your experience as enriching and fulfilling as mine. Good luck! xx
