My Internship Experience at Link Snacks International

Hello everyone! I’m Tugce, currently studying Communication Science and University of Amsterdam. I had an amazing experience working as a marketing intern at Link Snacks International for the past six months. This company is the home of well-known brands like BiFi, Peperami, and Jack Link’s.

The Company and Work Environment

Jack Link’s is a global leader in protein snacks, with a significant footprint in regions including the US and EMEA. They are especially well-established in the UK, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, offering delicious products like beef jerky and salami snacks.

Working at Jack Link’s was a unique experience. The office buzzed with an international mix of colleagues, and I had the chance to engage with various teams, enriching my understanding of the company’s operations. This diverse environment made it easy to build strong professional connections and settle in quickly.

My Responsibilities

During my internship, I managed several key projects. A highlight was leading a promotional collaboration with Morrisons, a major UK retailer. This involved creating a competition page on our website, accessible via QR codes in stores. Coordinating with four different parties, I learned a lot about internal communication and project management.

I also spearheaded a website transition project aimed at improving digital engagement. Additionally, I was responsible for managing product information on platforms like Adstream and BrandBank and tracking budgets across departments.

Reporting was a significant part of my role. I compiled and presented reports on licensing opportunities, brand health, and social media engagement. These activities enhanced my skills in data analysis, summarizing complex information, and effective storytelling.

Learning and Growth

My academic background in Communication Science was instrumental throughout my internship. Theories from courses on Persuasive and Corporate Communication, like Lasswell’s and McGuire’s models, were particularly applicable as I navigated real-world marketing challenges.

I was involved in market research, interpreting consumer behavior and preferences, which informed our marketing strategies. Although I didn’t conduct the research for the company myself, analyzing and presenting data became a critical component of my work.

Reflection and Development

Regular meetings with my supervisor helped me reflect on my progress and set new goals. Balancing multiple responsibilities and learning to delegate were key takeaways. The dynamic and creative work culture at Peperami also encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and actively contribute to various initiatives.

Networking and Professional Growth

Building a professional network was another highlight. Interactions with colleagues from different departments and participating in company events expanded my connections. Seeking mentorship from experienced professionals was invaluable for my career development.

Overall, my internship at Link Snacks International was a transformative experience. It equipped me with practical skills, broadened my professional network, and deepened my understanding of marketing and communication. If you’re looking for a hands-on, enriching internship, Jack Link’s is a fantastic choice!
