My Internship Experience at Bright8

 

Hi everyone! My name is Lorena Hasiu and I am a third year Communication Science student at the UvA.

From February to June 2022, I had the opportunity of interning for Bright8. Bright8 is a creative marketing and PR agency based in Haarlem, Amsterdam. The main focus of the agency is on the execution of content and organizing stand-out campaigns.

As an intern, I was part of the marketing and PR department. This department created PR strategies for different clients such as Spacened, Nuna, Curacao Tourist Board, Coway and so on. I was really amazed with the diversity of clients that the agency has and how they were really involved in promoting the agency to grow. So, every day was different with a bit of a challenge. For example, one day I was writing social posts or creating content for Bright8 while on another day I was conducting research for Nuna.

On a daily basis, I created social media content for Bright8 by searching for fun and interesting awareness days that could be posted on the agency’s socials: LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. Because of this I have learned how a social post should look like and sound like and got tips from my colleagues regarding the posts. Reporting is also essential in a marketing and PR agency and it was one of my main tasks every single day. Once a month I was supposed to do a PR report that consisted of all the PR that was being done in that specific month such as: creating new opportunities, content with media and generating publications. But the marketing report is an intern report that needed to be done every Monday morning and it entailed the results that were made for the campaign and brand content. And lastly, I was involved in media planning for the Bright8.

During my time as an intern, I have worked with my colleagues within my department but I also had the opportunity to help the design department. However, I was the first intern that the agency had so far, but everyone was really open and from the first day I felt part of it.

I am really grateful that I had the chance and opportunity to be able to go to work every day and not work remotely due to corona-outbreak. I had the pleasure to help with planning and bring new ideas by being present at every marketing and PR meeting. By being there with all my colleagues definitely gain me some insights about how it is to be part of a team that put so much effort in everything they do.

Based on my internship experience I know that marketing and PR domain is something that I want for the future. I recommend to every student to do have an experience by being an intern because not everything can be learned theoretically, multiple parts need to be practical because it is a very good preparation for the future.
