My Internship at Landhaus Lungau

How it is to work at Landhaus Lungau as a communication intern

When I applied as an intern, I was uncertain about the communication tasks of a hospitality company. How is internal communication arranged, how is it best to communicate with stakeholders, what social media strategies contribute to the best brand building and how can communication be used to lure in new guests? By the end of my internship, I got answers to all of these questions.

Landhaus Lungau is an Inn located in the region of Lungau in Austria. The lovely host family welcomes their guests throughout the year. During the winter season, the hotel crew organizes ski/snowboard vacations for families. Visitors start with a delicious breakfast at the inn in the morning. Then, guests are invited for organized ski instructions in small groups in the mountains. The professional ski instructors make sure that the visitor families have a safe and exciting ski experience throughout their holiday. A long day of alpine sport is completed by a relaxing spa experience at the wellness section of the inn and healthy dinner prepared from local ingredients. Throughout the summer, a Lungau vacation is calmer. The hotel crew offers hiking and biking tours as well as bathing trips at pristine local lakes.

Now more about my internship. During the first few days of my internship, I have been asked to familiarize myself with how the company works, what is the customer base, and what services they offer. Then, I immersed myself in planning the social media posts, refreshing the website, communicating with the customers and employees. I have had several discussions with my internship host about social media strategies and how he imagines Landhaus Lungau’s digital presence to be in the future. I have also continuously presented my new creative ideas and insights on content marketing. Over the second part of my internship, I have focused on researching innovative strategies about how the customer journey can be improved. I was encouraged to use all the soft skills, persuasive-, and corporate communication theories that I have learned during my previous study years, on the other hand, I have gained insights into how this knowledge is being applied in the hospitality industry.

I can recommend doing an internship at Landhaus Lungau for those of you who enjoy a family-like, relaxed environment as well as independent work. Even though I have been working closely with my internship host, I have been asked to use my creativity, be inventive and not be shy to explore and present innovative ideas on my own. So if you are interested in hospitality and winter sports and you feel more inclined to work on rather diverse tasks independently in a low-scale company, Landhaus Lungau is your place.
