Today is my last day at my 6-month internship at one of the most influential Chinese social media platform in Netherlands, GoGoDutch. Now it is time to summarize the experience. After 20 years of development, the platform has become a comprehensive platform connecting China, the Dutch Chinese and the Netherlands with the communication power of new media service platform. Through continuous accumulation of information, timely information updates, and dozens of online and offline activities every year, GoGoDutch provides assistance for Dutch Chinese to fully integrate into local life, and establishes an interactive life model in the Netherlands together with many netizens. And also, GoGoDutch brings together preferential prices for local shopping information and product recommendations in Europe, especially the Netherlands, helping Chinese in Netherlands save a lot of money. The operation department I was working for is the most important sector in the organization. My responsibilities can be separated into three parts.
First of all, I was independently responsible for the collection local news, and latest shopping information and most attractive products with preferential prices, editing, copywriting and publishing on various channels, like WeChat, Weibo and our official website on a daily basis. working for the new media platform has helped me improve my skill of writing soft articles or news, ranging from the title to ending words. I have learned how to identify topics that audiences are most likely to be interested in and how to make the news attract more viewers, based on online behaviors of our audiences and news values.
Second, according to different needs, I was responsible for writing corresponding Weibo articles and soft articles, planning various marketing themes and activities, and participating in the implementation of activities. This work was a little bit difficult for me in the beginning, because I had no experience of graphic design before. Fortunately, with the support and encouragement of my manager, I managed to design 10 advertising posts during my internship period, using various software.
Third, I needed to figure out the trend of views on both daily and weekly basis, identify which topics are more likely to generate more views, summarize them and present a weekly report on Monday. This part was easier than I thought. because I was only an intern, so my manager was not willing to assign me much work of user analysis which requires the use of some complicated software, such as B4P and GWI. My work related to research just includes recording the views of headlines every day and summing them every week in Excel. For this reason, my research skills have not been improved significantly after the 6-monthis internship.
The only thing I want to complain during the internship is the lack of socialization and networking. Although I have absolute flexibility because the internship was taken online, I have missed some opportunities of networking and getting along with people in different culture. For this reason, I think the internship was a little bit boring, and sometimes I felt socially isolated.
