My name is Roshan Yousefzadeh, I am a second year Communication Science student at the University of Amsterdam.
I had the amazing opportunity to be an intern at Franky Amsterdam from February until June 2024.
Franky Amsterdam As A Company
Franky Amsterdam is a Dutch jewellery brand that aims to make luxurious jewellery accessible for a wider population at an affordable price. Important factors that make Franky Amsterdam stand out compared to other competitors is the consistent launch of various collections within a short span of time and the organic advocacy of influencers that love Franky Amsterdam as a brand and promote the brand without being asked to. This shows that people truly appreciate and enjoy the products.
Content Marketing Intern: My Experience
I was an intern of the Marketing team. This consisted of writing newsletter texts, captions for all social media platforms, filming content for TikTok/Instagram, brainstorming concepts for new collection launches, writing product descriptions and packing online orders. However, what I really loved about being part of the Franky Amsterdam team was having the chance to do a lot more than that when you showed what you are fully capable of. For example, I was asked to make and publish landing pages for new collections on the website, help out the customer service team, be involved in several events (launch events, sample sale, etc.) as well as photoshoots and many more! Moreover, we worked in a small team, which meant that our input, as interns, was very important to the company. We were not treated as a number, but truly as individuals part of their team. Our ideas and thoughts were taken into consideration during decision-making processes and brainstorming moments.
Reflection and Lessons Learned Along The Way
During my time at Franky Amsterdam, I learned how to manage my time efficiently in order to complete all of the tasks assigned to me for the day. I am a person that likes to plan everything and be in control as much as possible. We had three meetings on a daily basis, which I found helpful for the task overview of that day. The first meeting was to discuss which tasks needed to be completed and/or had priority for the day. The second and the third meetings were to discuss how everyone’s progress was and what needed to be done the next day. In addition to that, this internship experience taught me that you can never be 100% prepared for everything and that you cannot always be in control, as there are always going to be unexpected events waiting for you around every corner. Therefore, the best possible solution is to plan ahead and leave some room for unforeseen events, such as last minute changes near the deadline of a task or launch, without them interrupting your agenda or causing stress.
Prior to this internship, I did not particularly enjoy writing, despite being aware of my strong writing skills. However, throughout my internship, I found myself having to write numerous texts very often. Surprisingly, this experience not only improved my writing but also fostered a newfound appreciation for the skill. Now, I enjoy the process of writing and even find it pleasant to experiment with different ways of writing (commercial, persuasive, narrative, creative, etc.).
Future Aspirations
Based on my internship experience, I know that I would definitely not only like to work in the marketing sector, but also the e-commerce sector in the future. This is because both sectors align well with my creative interests and therefore, give me enjoyment. Furthermore, I also noticed from the beginning that my love for jewellery made it extra pleasant to work at Franky Amsterdam because I was promoting and working on products that I have always been passionate about.
