I’m Catherine, and I am enrolled in the Bachelor of Communication Sciences at the University of Amsterdam and I am in my junior year.
From April to July 2023 I am very pleased to be interning in Ogilvy Shanghai. This company was established in 1991 and it is a subsidiary of Ogilvy (Group) Limited in China. The company is primarily engaged in marketing consulting, media planning, public relations, and marketing creative services.
At Ogilvy Shanghai, I hold the position of an account executive intern. I am currently interning in the car branding team focused on communication between internal departments and external clients for advertising design, brand building, and promotion for specific brands SAIC Audi. As an intern, my primary responsibilities include basic translation work and diagramming. Additionally, I will be responsible for collecting and summarizing relevant project information, conducting analysis, creating PowerPoint presentations, and participating in pre-project creative discussions as needed. Moreover, I will provide strategic support to clients and offer consulting services of strategies and advice as part of my internship.
I have lots of memorable stories as an intern at Ogilvy Shanghai. Once, I was overjoyed when I was allowed to attend a meeting by chance. The client was none other than Henrik, the highly respected head of the Audi brand. The main focus of the meeting was on Audi’s brand spirit, which is about ” progressive “. Among other things, the company’s strategy department mentioned during the meeting the developing future of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology in the automotive industry. I’m really interested in this field, because my graduation project looked extensively at AR technology. Henrik set the stage by emphasizing the importance of innovation in shaping Audi’s future. True innovation requires taking risks, learning from failures and adapting to emerging trends.
The participants left the conference with a new sense of purpose and full of inspiration. They were eager to embark on this new journey and together shape the future of advertising innovation. Through their combined efforts, they will bridge the gap between the technical and the practical, creating captivating experiences that engage audiences and drive brands forward.
As the internship experience at Ogilvy Shanghai has taught me a lot and helped guide me in my future employment life, I am very grateful for the valuable skills and knowledge I gained during my internship. Working alongside industry professionals in a fast-paced and dynamic environment not only honed my abilities in marketing and advertising but also enhanced my teamwork and communication skills. Having the opportunity to contribute to real-world client projects has given me a solid understanding of the complexities of the advertising industry and the importance of delivering impactful campaigns. The mentoring I received from seasoned professionals has been invaluable in shaping my career trajectory, giving me the guidance and support I need to excel. Additionally, Ogilvy’s multicultural work environment exposed me to different perspectives and developed an appreciation for artistic nuances, which will undoubtedly be an asset in my future work. Overall, my internship at Ogilvy Shanghai was a transformation and equipped me with the confidence and skills needed to embark on a successful career journey.
