Interning at Turkey’s leading Design & Communications Center

Three months ago, I started my creative communications internship at Dream Design Factory (dDf), a Turkish event organizing and marketing agency. And let me tell you – every day was brand new, restless and superbly extraordinary. No day was dull as we rushed from venue to venue and came up with innovative ideas back in the office. Even after office hours, the thrill did not end.

My everyday life started with a boat trip to the office on the Bosphorus shore at 9:30 am. As I was always the first one to arrive at the office, I steeped the tea, prepared the coffee and made the detox water filled with fresh fruit. Then I started off with checking emails and finishing any tasks that had a deadline for that day. My typical days at the company consisted of creating presentations for clients about possible activities for their events, background research of our clientele, communication with event locations and document translation from Turkish to English. I was in constant contact with my supervisor and colleagues, constantly taking initiative to assist everyone with their load while showing them tips and tricks on working more swiftly on the computer. I also provided insight into the newest trends that Gen Z is into, as well as generally present what visuals and topics grab our attention. This was especially handy when we hosted a new sales model launch, at the newest luxurious hotel in Istanbul, for an automotive company.

This special day started at 7 am when we checked all the lighting and sound systems, making sure that they were working fine. We also printed out updated speech cards, organized name tags and allocated all hosts to their specific areas. I was asked to check that everyone’s attire was proper and that all parts of the team were functioning properly. As the guests, clients and journalists started to arrive at 1 pm, I welcomed everyone and guided the journalists to the other room where the launch stage was. My colleagues and I were all over the venue, trying to desperately prevent anything from going wrong. However, when the presentation started and the guests were seated, we all calmed down since fortunately there were no issues. When all the presenters were finished, I directed the Q&A session and handed the microphone around until the big reveal of the balcony that had a rich open buffet with a sea view. After all the guests left, we ended the day by grabbing drinks at the hotel’s restaurant and had a fabulous dinner and, most importantly, got to eat various types of desserts.

After they saw how much I enjoyed the cake at the event, during my last day, my colleagues got me petit fours and had a small farewell party at the office. During my internship at Dream Design Factory, I got to gain so much professional experience and valuable friendships that will last forever. Even after my internship ended, I am still in contact with everyone and continue to meet around Istanbul.
