Over the last three months, I have been able to intern at the Seven.One Entertainment Group, a leading television and streaming company belonging to the ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE. ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE provides entertainment with the means of 14 free and pay tv channels reaching up to 14 million households in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The innovative approach to creation, marketing, and audience engagement made my internship a valuable first work experience as I have been able to work closely with a variety of departments owned by the group. From tabloid journalism over the news to the editors in chief, I was able to acquire much knowledge, experience, and a first taste of the media world.
Since the start of my internship my experience at the Seven.One Entertainment Group has played an immense role in shaping my professional development. An environment in which fast change, quick adaptation, and working efficiently under pressure are key for personal development. In the beginning, feeling overwhelmed and stressed about the complex process and the dynamics was natural. Nevertheless, due to the helpfulness, openness, and willingness to explain complex processes of experienced top level professionals in charge, I adapted quickly to my role. Therefore, I was able to develop skills helpful in the communication field such as time management, organization skills, and teamwork.
I was able to understand the complexity and insights of the entertainment and television field due to working alongside professionals. I was involved in a variety of projects in which I had to conduct research, come up with new ideas and bring in my own opinion. Theoretical concepts learned at university were now used in real-life. The face-paced environment changed me to adapt to and meet the expectations of the company. I was able to be on set during productions, follow the video team to recordings and help brainstorm ideas for new formats. Therefore, hands-on experiences allowed me to understand the process from content development up to streaming.
The internship allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and learn many new skills. Taking initiative, going up to people, asking for help and offering help have been behaviors I have advanced during my internship and will use during my future path. Responsibility and accountability are skills that are very important in a professional environment and I have been able to acquire those due to being handed the responsibility for research, organizing video shootings, and many other tasks.
Beginning my internship at ProSiebenSat.1 I was not aware of the importance of networking at first but it is a major part of the communication environment. Thus, having the opportunity to connect with the decison making professionals from the Seven.One Entertainment Group as well as any company working with the group has been a great part of my internship. Participating in group meetings and other events has been key in meeting connecting with new people. Possibly the connections that I have formed now may be instrumental in my future career.
Reflecting on the past 3 months of my internship I believe that interning at the Seven.One Entertainment Group is a great and very valuable first work experience for me. I am able to apply knowledge and theories that I have previously encountered in textbooks and lectures in real life and a professional work environment. I am getting more comfortable to step out of my comfort zone and overcome challenges as well as understand the construction and processes of a media company. Due to my many experiences, I am excited to work in the communication field and for the next three months of my internship.
