Interning at Growth Tribe: The journey of a social media specialist

Hey! My name is Ana Dondoni, and I am a third-year Communication Science student at the University of Amsterdam.

From the past 6 months, February to July 2024, I was a social media intern at Growth tribe.

Growth Tribe is a digital learning company that provides customized training to individuals and businesses looking to succeed in today’s changing digital market. They are the best education tech company in the Netherlands and the 5th in Europe.

Pretty cool right?

I had the pleasure of taking over all their social media accounts, including LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. As part of the marketing team, I also collaborate with other teams, such as events and design. But that’s not all of it.

With a variety of tasks, each day began with careful planning and organization as I had to create a thorough content strategy for the following two-week sprint utilizing the Jira board calendar. This plan served as a framework for our content development activities across several platforms, guaranteeing a consistent and strategic approach.

Once the planning process was over, I moved on to content production, which was where my creativity shined. From creating unique articles for social media to producing interesting copies and documenting behind-the-scenes moments at events, I worked hard to create material that resonated with our audience and was consistent with our brand identity.

But of course, selecting existing material for distribution on LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter demanded a sharp eye for relevancy and integrity, as well as giving credit to the creators.

The research was critical in developing the content strategy, as I stayed current on industry trends, followed key calendar events, and acquired data to support their message and narrative efforts. This entailed searching the internet for relevant articles, data, and insights that would enhance content and give useful context for our audience. As for my personal internship research, I analyze whether the content format used on Instagram impacted the engagement metrics.

Alongside content development and research, I was also responsible for writing and optimizing blogs. Using software such as Frase and HubSpot, I ensured that our blog entries were not only well-written and interesting but also search engine optimized, allowing them to reach and influence more people.

All things considered, my time working as a social media intern at Growth Tribe has been diverse and varied, with fresh challenges and chances for development every day. From the start, I knew that I would enjoy all my tasks and the working environment.

I was able to make a significant contribution to the organization’s digital success while developing my abilities and knowledge in the always-changing field of social media marketing by striking a balance between activities like content development, engagement, analytics, research, writing, and cooperation.

The blend of social media with journalism is definitely the industry side of media that I will follow for my career path.
