Interning at Everge: What is it like to work for a technology based parenting company?

Hi there! My name is Karina Manzhukova, I am a second year Commmunication Science student at the University of Amsterdam.

From February to July 2023, I had the pleasure of interning for a leading edutainment company in the field of parenting, Everge.  It is a vibrant Dutch company dedicated to empowering parents worldwide. From engaging courses to invaluable research, my time here has been nothing but enlightening.

Let’s start by delving into the heart of Everge. Everge, formerly known as HowToTalk, is a young and innovative company established in 2020. Their primary mission is to help parents build stronger connections with their children through a digital platform. Through interactive courses, training, and expert advice, Everge equips parents in the Dutch, Belgian, and English-speaking markets.

During my time at Everge, I had the privilege of taking on diverse responsibilities, contributing to the company’s vibrant ecosystem. As a member of the content creation team, I focused on developing engaging courses on women’s health and effective parenting communication. Extensive research and creative skills were at the core of bringing these courses to life within the dynamic digital environment of “Figma.”

But that wasn’t the extent of my journey. I also had the task of managing Everge’s English social media accounts. Crafting compelling posts and analyzing engagement data became second nature to me. By understanding the preferences of our target audience, I utilised my persuasive communication skills, driving higher engagement and fostering growth across various social media platforms.

Nonetheless, by applying my Communication Science knowledge, I strategically implemented persuasive communication techniques in social media content and marketing strategies tailored to new parents, our primary audience. On a practical level, my digital literacy received a significant boost as I navigated various software platforms such as Figma, Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Slack, enhancing my overall computer skills and adaptability.

Reflecting on my internship experience at Everge, I now know that the technological industry is the industry where I have set my sights. I believe that all study programs should incorporate internships as a mandatory requirement; the practical exposure gained in such environments is invaluable for students, providing them with essential educational and real-world preparation for their future careers.

All in all, the internship experience has undeniably provided me with a solid foundation for my career, equipping me with invaluable skills that will shape my path to success in the future. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity and the profound lessons learned during my time at Everge. In fact, I am so enthusiastic about my growth and development that I have decided to stay working at Everge as a content creator and marketing employee. I believe this will allow me to further enhance my skills, expand my knowledge, and delve even deeper into my passion for creating compelling marketing content. I am excited to continue this journey of learning and contribute meaningfully to Everge’s mission of empowering parents worldwide.
