Hi there! My name is Joke Klein and I did my internship at the software agency Droppery. Droppery is a startup company that connects suppliers with the right online shops and takes care automatically of their order flow. Seems easy right? You can guess it, it was not! Read my blogpost if you want to know how i got other companies to notice me.
Do your research
Before starting your internship, make sure to do your research! My internship company is functioning in the field of eCommerce, therefore I red a few articles including definitions to have a better understanding of this field. In addition to that, make sure to understand what the company is doing and what companies could be the concurrence. This is interesting for you to know, since these could be companies that notice you and try to contact you after your internship is done.
Use LinkedIn
At the start of my internship, I posted on Linkedin proudly that I will be Droppery’s intern for the next 6 months and thanked the two co-owners to have me on board. In addition to that, the two owners commented on my post, which automatically will share my post and connection of the two owners could see the post as well. During my internship, I posted on my personal LinkedIn page all the blog post i wrote for Droppery. Not to forget that I tagged the company and possible partner companies if the blog included their content. This increased the post impression a lot! Some times, my posts even got shared from other companies since they liked them or they were mentioned in it.
Be confident
At my internship I got the chance to communicate with a lot of clients and partner companies. Everytime the communication ended or the partner/client had a question of the business, I referred to the recent blog page I made that might answer their questions. This got many people interested to read the blog page. At the end of my internship, I got the opportunity to be part of a huge event that is called Webwinkelvakdagen. My tasks was to make pictures for our social media accounts, while the sales team is trying to be in touch with a lot of people. My idea was to make pictures of all the partner companies that worked with Droppery together. Like this I was able to speak with a lot of marketers from different companies. First, I was introducing myself, by saying my name and for which company I worked for. Surprisingly, All of the partner companies recognized me or my name from LinkedIn and told me that they were impressed of my work!
It’s paying off
As I mentioned in the beginning, it is crucial to know which companies are the concurrence and which companies are out there that are interested in an intern at a software agency. After finishing my 6 months, two companies that are concurrence were found in my LinkedIn messages and offered me a job in the communication – marketing team.
