Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) is an organisation with the aim to unite the sector to unleash the true potential of organic cotton in the fashion industry. Through their partnerships and programs they are advancing farmer prosperity and working towards making the fashion supply chain more sustainable.
A day at OCA begins with coffee and a brief community management meeting. In this meeting the whole communications team spends time going over the organisations’ social media channels and the emails sent to the communications department. After completing community management everyone is free to get on with the project they are focusing on at the moment. Everyone’s tasks are usually briefed every week on Mondays. This is a meeting with all the teams in the organisation and the main goal is to align and provide support between teams.
At the moment my main tasks involve providing support on digital content creation for The Organic Cotton and Textiles Conference the organisation will be co-hosting. These are mainly related to branding documents, creating templates for the conference social media campaign and newsletter. As well as, writing blog post templates for recaps on the conference. Therefore, I spent a sizable part of my day browsing through the presentations and pamphlets created for the event, as well as, going over the itinerary for the conference; highlighting information which is important and can be used for content creation. This is because I have to make sure that, through the social posts and newsletter, the main events of the conference are clear and that audiences are able to see what was discussed and who participated.
After lunch, I spent some time going through OCA’s photography resources to select images that will be used for the social media campaign for the conference. At the same time, I spent some time gathering images which can also be included in the presentation slides for the conference. After gathering all the images I decided to split my afternoon into two sections, in order to be able to work on both projects. The first half of the afternoon, I focused on branding documents. This meant I was making sure all the pamphlets and presentation slides are in line with the current OCA brand guidelines. This is an important task in order to make sure everything looks professional and the same. You would be surprised how some people use either the old version of their logo or colours not aligned with the brand when writing official documents. This has been a recurring task for me as I have been asked to pre-review the branding of external communication documents throughout my whole internship experience.
The second half of the afternoon, after a well deserved coffee break, I spent my time drafting some ideas for the structure of the blog posts which will be created around the conference events. I also drafted the newsletter which needs to be sent by the end of this week, which contains more information on the itinerary of the conference and some background on the speakers which will be attending. By the end of the day I delivered these drafts to my supervisor who will have some notes for me to improve tomorrow during our weekly meeting. Overall, it was a busy but productive day at the office!
