As someone with a passion for fashion as well as marketing, I wanted an internship that combined the two together. For this reason, my search for an internship was not very broad as I was set on a job that would keep me interested throughout the 6 months I’d be working. This was crucial to me as I wanted to be motivated and eager to work every day. Knowing this, I looked on platforms such as LinkedIn and on google with specific keywords like “fashion internships Amsterdam”. After sending out many applications and going through some interviewing processes, I finalized my decision. I got an internship under the position of “creative marketing intern” at a company named FERAGGIO.
FERAGGIO is a small company specializing in different styles of high heels including pumps, sandals and slingbacks. What makes their product special is the presence of a foot bed which cushions one’s foot– making the wear experience very comfortable which is not likely for all heels. In addition, the company is rather small which fosters an environment where all employees have a strong relationship. As per my position as creative marketing intern, I will not only be performing many tasks everyday, but they will also differ. For one, I will be in charge of making weekly newsletters from start to finish. This means I will be drafting the design of the newsletter as well as the content in order to trigger sales. In other words, working closely with photoshop will be a skill I must acquire and improve throughout my internship. Another task I will be responsible for is social media content– creating the visual appearance and content. Overall, the two main tasks include many smaller aspects and details to eventually be commercial and increase sales.
After working for FERAGGIO for 6 months, my expectations have not only been met but they’ve been broadened. Firstly, there were many more tasks I took under my wing that were not mentioned. For example, interacting with customers (selling shoes face-to-face), working with excel to keep track of sales, planning a photoshoot as well as being a stylist and model, etc. Overall, when I began to work in a more efficient and meticulous way, my boss decided to give me more responsibility and tasks which was very endearing and made me feel very optimistic. It gave me new ideas as to what my future dream job could be– such as being a creative director. Since I was able to manage many aspects of the company such as their Instagram account (planning content in addition to the creative direction), and managing some interns (delegating tasks and planning their responsibilities), not only did my abilities improve in every aspect, but I gained more life direction and confidence. The job allowed me to be extremely creative (since I was given that freedom) and managerial. The fact that I was required to plan my schedule, contact designers, curate a photoshoot from top to bottom, and distribute different tasks taught me a lot.
Looking back at my experience, my favorite undertaking has been planning a photoshoot. The integration of my creativity and planning skills came in handy– allowing me to see an amazing outcome in both images and the relationships made with make-up artists, hair stylists, designers and models. I believe finding an internship in a field I love caused me to flourish and is a decision I stand by.
