From the start of April to the end of June, I will be an intern at OMG – Online Marketing Group, at the department Brainshuffle, in Utrecht. Though I will have to wake up at 6 am every day, and travel for 1.5 hours for the upcoming 3 months to reach the OMG office, I am 100% sure it will be worth the experience!
One of the services Brainshuffle offers is creating email driven marketing campaigns for their clients using their self developed system “COFFEE” (Conversion Optimization Funnel For Effective Engagement). COFFEE is based on 20 years of experience in the marketing industry; it is a new way of persuading consumers in a step by step customized interactive email journay (or as they call it “flow”), including neuromarketing elements. The target group is found by using the biggest email dataset in the Netherlands, owned by the other department within OMG, mailmedia.
My first task is creating content for their “kennisbank” section on the site, by coming up with examples for each persuasion technique listed on the site. This assignment perfectly combines using knowledge obtained in courses from the bachelor Communication Science (persuasion techniques included in the bachelor) and expanding my knowledge (getting familiar with persuasion techniques not included in the bachelor).
The first days where a bit hectic, as I started while the company was under audit to obtain their 2018 ISO (International Organization for Standardisation) certificates; these are not mandatory, but definitely an advantage to have, as they show future potential clients that they have a professional and responsible way of working. This is an advantage in a society where leaks and hacks on the internet are on the rise. Luckily, I was able to quickly apply the safety rules explained on the first day, managing to avoid having to bring cake to the office (which everyone that made a mistake had to do) and enjoy the cake brought in by others!
