Creating a dance generation is the goal of DNCRS, this is sensible through their whole aesthetic and way of working. A very laidback but hardworking environment was ‘’the vibe’’ they were going for, without even really trying. There is always music playing in the office and every once in a while, someone mentions how much they love the song that is playing. On my first day we even went for lunch with the people that were at the office because ‘’that’s what they always do’’.
DNCRS mainly tries to achieve their goal by giving dance workshops to middle school in Almere (and Amsterdam and Utrecht are becoming more popular destinations). One of the teachers goes to the school and gives a series of workshops over a span of a few weeks (or even the whole schoolyear) in these workshops the children are first exploring their bodies and experimenting what their bodies can do. The higher-grade students are learning more difficult techniques and choreographies.
Now where my internship comes into play is their side business. DNCRS was organizing a dance event during the May holiday when there are no regular or dance classes. This for children who simply did not want to stop dancing. My job was to help them promote this dance event, through posting about it on their social media accounts and by making both physical and online advertisements. The second goal of this was to make a name for themselves as they are still relatively new and small. To get them known to the public.
This leads me to a typical day working for DNCRS. We start at 8:30, because that’s when the schools start. I would either start at a school start make content with some of the teachers and children who were dancing, make Instagram stories or making content to use for later posts. Then when I would be done at 12 with shooting content, I would go to the office or when it was a far travel, I would even get picked up. Then the office people would have lunch together. And the afternoon was full of editing and making posts.
On days I would work at the office I would help the promote the dance event by making flyers, helping come up with new strategies to get people to sign up. We would brainstorm for hours, and no idea was to weird or was shut down immediately. All to help them achieve their goal: Create a generation of DNCRS!
