My internship at Bymygo felt like an enormous leap into the unknown when I first started. I was excited to dive into the field of digital marketing and content development to help wrap up my academic journey. I had no idea that this experience would play a big role in helping me discover my actual interest.
As third-year students, we inevitably start to wonder what comes next for us. Some of us have it figured out and know exactly what they want out of life, but if you’re anything like me… you don’t. As hard as it is to come to terms with it, not knowing and feeling lost is just part of the journey… We should enjoy the ride as we face a sea of possibilities. To quote Oscar Wilde: “If you know what you want to be, then you inevitably become it – that is your punishment, but if you never know, then you can be anything.”
Being faced with a sea of possibilities allows us to follow every minute passion or interest until we either find ourselves within it or move on to try something else. During my Bachelor’s in Communication Science, I “found my passion” 30 different times. I took Corporate Communication and thought I would love to work in that field, but then the next block I took Persuasive Communication and thought that might be interesting. After that, I took Political Communication and, although Ive never been interested in politics, I ended up getting the highest grade I’ve ever gotten. Finally, I took Entertainment Communication and was so invested in it that I decided to dedicate my entire thesis to that subject. But after all of that, I still find myself wondering which direction I should go.
When it came to look for an internship I was interested in the field of digital marketing, at Bymygo, I was welcomed into a vibrant and supportive team. From day one, I was given creative freedom in curating posts and crafting content. The team trusted me to bring my ideas to the table, and it was empowering to know that my contributions were valued. I was encouraged to voice my opinions and suggest changes wherever I felt necessary.
Despite the excitement and fulfillment I found in my role, I started to realize something important about myself. While digital marketing was fascinating and fun, it didn’t ignite a lasting passion within me. This realization was both surprising and enlightening. It made me reflect on my interests and what truly makes me excited to go to work every day.
Through this internship, I learned that finding your passion isn’t always straightforward. Sometimes, you need to dive into different experiences to understand what you truly love. My time at Bymygo taught me invaluable skills and gave me a clearer sense of direction. It was a stepping stone that helped me recognize what I truly want out of this world. I now know more about myself and what I don’t want to do.
If I had to choose one life lesson I learned from this internship, it is that following what you think is right will never be a waste of time.
