As I’m taking some time to write down my thoughts and experiences today, I’m almost at the end of my internship at Tiny Parque Nederland B.V. It’s hard to believe how quickly time is flying by; in just a few weeks the entire internship will be behind me. But for now, I’m still here and will give all of you a little insight into one of the working days I as a marketing and communication intern at Tiny Parque Nederland B.V.
Morning: New Projects
The day kicked off with a morning meeting with my supervisor, who provided insights into the ongoing project in Emmeloord—which entails building a new residential area of compact, high-quality, and energy-efficient homes. Located at the edge of the city, this particular sport is carefully chosen to create a balance between city life and the tranquility of a well-designed community. The project taps into the trends of living better with less both in terms of the surroundings and the size of the houses, with an indoor living space 50 m2 surrounded by their own nature garden of 300 m2 to 400 m2.
During my internship, I was truly amazed to see how many people are interested in this new form of living. Another thing I found special about this project is how it addresses the current housing crisis by building 30 new houses in an area which is now not used for housing. There does go a lot of effort in starting such a project from the ground up and I couldn’t have imagined how many things need to be taken into consideration. Not just within our own company, but also through collaborations with others. We have a lot of contact with the local government, potential buyers and other stakeholders. In the morning meeting we discuss the current state of affairs and the most important follow up steps that need to be taken.
Midday: Crafting Communication
My own primary focus has been on preparing the online communication channels for multiple projects, among which the new project in Emmeloord. Crafting content for the website and social media involved a strategic blend of persuasive communication theories. The Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) by Petty and Cacioppo has proven to be useful to me in tailoring content for diverse platforms. From Instagram’s emphasis on visuals to the website’s in-depth information. Sometimes it was challenging to figure out how I could engage audiences on the different platforms most effectively. A crucial aspect has been using trying to use my own creativity into this role, for instance through creating visual content through photography and design programs.
Afternoon: Town Hall Meeting
At the end of the day, I attended a meeting at the Town Hall in Emmeloord. As the meeting unfolded, I actively contributed ideas to address potential challenges and prepared communication material for an upcoming informational evening organized by the municipality.
Providing a glimpse into my day as an intern and sitting down to write this blogpost gave me some time to reflex on everything that has happened, the challenges I’ve faced, and things I’ve learned during the past couple of months. I am truly thankful for all of it and would recommend everybody to do an internship at a company in the tiny house sector, since it’s such an innovative and creative market.
