Hello, I’m Amy!
During this semester, I’ve done my internship at an event space/meeting room/co-working space called Capital C. It is located two minutes by walk from the Roeterseiland campus, which was really convenient for me since I had to retake classes during my internship semester.
How I got the gig
So you’re probably reading this wondering how to find an internship. Well, I’ll have to admit I won’t be much help with that (sorry!). To make a long story short, I was working at Capital Kitchen, a restaurant located inside Capital C at the time, and that meant I knew the people working in the offices (and their coffee orders). I decided one day, in the middle of making a cappuccino for the marketing ladies, to shoot my shot and ask them if they needed an intern. Turns out they really needed help and in the span of a second, we discussed when would be my first day. So in my case, finding an internship was very easy, and I hope it will be for you too!
What I did
So having no idea what I would do but knowing I’d be helping them in marketing, I decided to go with the flow of what they would ask me to do, and sponge up as much information as I could. One of my main tasks was to schedule Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn posts for both Capital C and Capital Kitchen. The fun part was that I had total freedom over what I wanted to post about. I would schedule my own little shoots, take the pictures, edit them, think of a funny caption and schedule it. Only at the point of scheduling I would receive feedback, and then we’d make minor adjustments to my posts. I had to make three posts per week on each account (including one reel per week per account) and I had to create content for stories every day. I also had to monitor the accounts for comments and messages.
That’s not all! I also had the responsibility to find suppliers for the promotional items that we give to clients, and order all of the items on time. I found this quite a challenge because Capital C had very specific requirements but I always managed to find something that they were satisfied with.
How I liked it
To be completely honest, I found it very interesting to have full freedom over what to post about, but I also found it quite nerve-wracking to constantly have to think about everything myself (and execute it). I realized that they thought I had more experience than I had, which meant I had to work quite a bit to organize myself to learn the things I needed to do this internship. The experience was great besides that, all of my colleagues were super nice and appreciative of my work, and I got to work in a really cool office building alongside many creative companies. So if you’re someone that loves the freedom to do whatever you want, and work well independently, this internship is for you!
