We’ve all seen those vans in Amsterdam delivering food boxes with an intriguing green lemon logo on them. Rings a bell? That’s right, I’m talking about HelloFresh!
During the first semester of my third year of bachelor, I had the chance to be part of the HelloFresh family: a dynamic, young and very welcoming company in its Amsterdam office, operating for the Benelux markets. Initially, I had not planned to do an internship during this semester. I saw the opportunity on LinkedIn and thought “let’s give it a try, you have nothing to lose after all”. It was actually the only internship I applied for. I went through various interviews and completed a case study before getting that call while sitting on terrasse with one of my best friends in late June – and lo and behold, in two months I’ll be starting what has been the most rewarding work experience I’ve had so far!
More than just a company that delivers fresh ingredients to your door to cook various recipes, HelloFresh is very involved in sustainability and making a positive impact on everyone’s lives. For me, it is very important to be part of a company that I share values with. I feel very concerned about sustainability, so HelloFresh was the perfect place for me. Over the weeks and months, I’ve learned a lot about what they’re doing to reduce food waste, adopting greener packaging and supporting local suppliers as much as possible.
But, all-in-all, what was I doing Communication Science-related at HelloFresh?
For almost 6 months, I assisted the Social Media & Content Marketing Manager for the Benelux markets. And I must say that my days were never the same! From my very first days, I participated in brainstorming sessions for creative and persuasive content. Moreover, I wrote, planned and analyzed the performance of social media and blog posts. An exercise that reinforced my creative writing and analytical skills: using the right tone, adding a little humor here and there, and marketing well, as well as determining what worked best and why in order to align the strategy we had.
Afterwards, I led projects myself such as an Instagram live and a giveaway with the Belgian French speaking HelloFresh brand ambassador. For this, I was lucky enough to travel to Belgium and be part of the production day, live. Leading this project and gaining so much responsibility has definitely taught me a lot.
From week to week, I was also working on the quarterly magazine, helping with PR and trend mailings, brainstorming potential partnerships, implementing and reinforcing the TikTok strategy, helping with content creation and video briefings, participate in the 10 Years campaign, etc. In fact, I wasn’t “stuck” in a few tasks, and worked with different departments such as product marketing, business development and design teams. Also, as HelloFresh has a global presence, I had the chance to be in contact with teams in Berlin, France and Italy, for example.
More than a professional experience, it was a human experience. Covid has limited the time spent in the office, but these moments have always been very rewarding, as well as the few company events we have had.
