I never thought it possible to be where I was—working in fashion, doing content creation, creative direction, marketing, and styling. That was the first two weeks of my internship in the fashion industry, also known as the honeymoon period. Things started to get more interesting in the following weeks when I had the privilege of being part of organizing a campaign. Before you think it’s glamorous, it’s not quite as it seems. Let’s look at a day in my life during one of the most stressful but fun periods of my internship.
It all starts at 6:27 am when I wake up. It is Monday, one day before the Spring/Summer ’25 campaign takes place. I get dressed as quickly as I can, grab breakfast, and head to Amsterdam Center to pick up clothes for the photoshoot. After that, I head to Laren, where the office is, changing three forms of transportation while carrying my bags, laptop, and lunch. Truly a Devil Wears Prada moment.
I am greeted by my fellow colleagues, my work bestie with whom I share the organizational tasks, and a couple of dozen jeans waiting for me to steam them. It is now 10 am, and I sit down with my mint tea to start answering emails. This doesn’t take much time as I have more urgent matters to attend to—the handy dandy steamer.
At 10:25, I start ironing and steaming the jeans. At the same time, my colleague and I begin to make a spreadsheet with the outfits. Jean after jean, wrinkle after wrinkle, it approaches lunchtime.
At 12:40, everyone at the office gathers and sits down for a lunch break. We talk about the upcoming shoot, the weather, Eurovision, our current obsessions, and the housing market. Afterwards, we take everyone’s favorite office member—Louis, the CEO’s dog—for a quick walk in the park around the office.
At 13:30, I resume my glamorous activities as I have two hours to steam 30 pairs of jeans, and believe me, that is no easy task.
At 15:00, I get an urgent message from my supervisor—it’s World Environment Day, and we haven’t done anything about it on social media. As a sustainable company, a post about it is a must. I leave the steamer to my colleague and log into Canva, where the magic happens. Meanwhile, I alert the graphic design team so we can collaborate on the story together. By 15:30, we have a post, a story, and a LinkedIn update ready to go.
At 15:35, our supervisor comes to pick up the steamed clothes and outfits so they can bring them to the photo studio. The other interns and I load the van with everything.
At 16:00, while I’m finally sitting down to tackle my other tasks, I receive a call from the CEO—the photographer from the last shoot has sent the photos, and someone very urgently needs to go through them and select which ones we want for editing. That someone is me. I spend the next hour and a half going through 2,000 photos, selecting the 30 best ones for the Fall/Winter ’24 collection.
At 17:35, I am officially done. I send the final selection, log off, give Louis a goodbye hug, and head to the bus stop, mentally preparing myself for the photoshoot tomorrow.
And that concludes my working day as a creative marketing intern in the fashion industry. It’s fun, dynamic, sometimes chaotic, but it’s where I thrive and feel inspired.
