During my 5 month internship at the well-known Dutch lingerie company Hunkemöller, I got the opportunity to learn more about the world of e-commerce model shoots. I found my position in this marketing department to be even more interesting because Hunkemöller is known for its inclusive and empowering brand values. They put a lot of effort into making every consumer feel recognised and represented, which is very important to me.
Recruiting models was one of my main responsibilities. This required investigation into many agencies to find models that reflected the broad demographic of consumers that Hunkemöller wants to attract. Inclusivity is once again, a big deal for the brand, so I had to make sure we featured models of different ethnicities, body types, and backgrounds. Making model proposals, which allowed me to recommend potential models for each shoot, was a fun task for me. I had to keep up with trends, while also making sure our decisions embodied Hunkemöller’s inclusive principles.
Another exciting part of my role was creating hair and makeup proposals. I worked closely with makeup artists and stylists to make sure every look fit our shoot, complemented the collection the models wore, and fit the overall appearance of the model. This process was fun because of the mix of practical implementation and creative thinking.
It was interesting being on set throughout shooting. I assisted with scheduling and preparing the sample collections for model shoots, as well as making hotel and transportation bookings for models. I helped with setting up the studio, ensuring the models were prepared, and maintaining order on the day of the shoot. In addition to this, I got to join in on producing the shoots and selecting the final images for the website which was very rewarding. It was a bit nerve-racking at first but I quickly learned by speaking my mind and ideas, asking questions and not being afraid to make mistakes. I now feel confident in this area of e-commerce marketing.
Interacting with the models and the rest of the crew was one of the best parts. Everyone on set played a role in creating the final images and had great teamwork.
These shoots gave me a big opportunity to develop a professional network. I’ve gotten to know different stylists, photographers, digital operators, producers, and creative directors. It felt like being part of a big, creative family, and every shoot was a new experience. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of well-known models from around the world and have exchanged contacts with many of them, expanding my professional network. As well as meeting talented crews in the production marketing field, and many more. Through these experiences, I was able to make beneficial connections.
All in all, my experience working at Hunkemöller was amazing and full of teamwork, cooperation, communication, and innovation. I have grown a lot during my internship as I got many responsibilities and a lot of independence and gained a better understanding of marketing within the lingerie, and fashion industry. If anyone out there is looking for an internship, I really recommend an internship at Hunkemöller
