B2B Product Marketing at Webfleet Solutions
One sunny afternoon in the month of May I received a missed call from a number I was not familiar with. At first, I thought it was probably a scam of some sort, and I did not call back right away. Having applied to multiple companies and not being able to get passed the first round of interviews I had very little hope that I would be able to do my internship this year. However, after calling back I received great news, they wanted me and asked me to sign an internship contract right-away! Let me give you a little bit of background about the company:
Webfleet Solutions is currently considered as one of the world’s leading telematics solution providers, dedicated to fleet management, vehicle telematics and connected car. Webfleet Solutions currently has over 40,000 customers worldwide and services drivers in more than 90 countries. The company provides products and solutions to other businesses that help improve driver safety, reduce costs and optimize business processes. Most importantly, Webfleet Solutions as being a part of Bridgestone, share a global commitment and a mission to help build a sustainable future. Webfleet Solutions already helps customers to reduce their fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 25%.
The sustainability part really got to me, since I am a huge environmentalist. I really wanted to contribute to a better and cleaner world, and by doing my internship I was able to achieve that.
My expectations were low at first since I knew I would have to do my internship online for the most part. However, once I met my team and started running a few small tasks my expectations were exceeded. At first, I found it hard to understand what was going on within the company since everyone used their marketing terms which I was not familiar with. After figuring that-out, I knew I had to act quick, and I started googling every marketing term that my team members used during meetings. In my opinion, that really helped me and after constantly hearing those terms I started to memorize and learn them. I felt like if I did not pay attention in my persuasive communication classes at UvA, understanding what’s going on would have been even harder.
I put my communication science knowledge in practice when I conducted research for Webfleet Solutions regarding positive and negative message framing within social media. Courses such as MCRS and SMCR helped to conduct research and design the study.
The thing that I liked most about my internship that my team and my supervisor were very friendly and easy-going. They let me combine my internship with exams, classes and even vacation!
I recommend the marketing internship at Webfleet Solutions for those who:
- Want to experience how B2B marketing works in a big professional environment
- Want to work in a friendly and helpful environment surrounded by supportive colleagues
- Would like to contribute to a sustainable future by marketing products and solutions
- For those who are interested in gaining knowledge in communication, product marketing, technology and transportation industries.
