Being a PR agent means you are constantly busy with reading newspapers, looking at social media posts, listening to podcasts, just about anything you can imagine. Hence, you have to be able to work under stressful conditions. If you care about the brands you work for, this job can be very rewarding. At Blyde (which is a B corporation), this sure is the case. B Corporations balance purpose and profit. By having such certification, they are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. Using business as a force of good. By being the change they want to see in the world, they attract the most amazing clients with the coolest assignments. It is amazing to participate in their brainstorm sessions. For example, a customer wants to know how their vegan yoghurt can beat the lawsuit of the dairy company, it is up to the PR agents to figure out in what way they can shape this campaign. You are as free as it gets, the more authentic and crazy, the better! Look at the campaign for Abbott Kinney’s, yep, that was all Blyde 😉 Therefore, this job can give you a lot of intrinsic rewards. This can also count for something smaller but still very important: when you make a good media list and you see that a lot of those recipients post the press release you send out, it can feel very satisfying. Victories are always celebrated at Blyde. They really make you feel part of the team and they are very kind. This team really is a united front. They have each other’s back. Weekly check-ins are normal. Informal meetings on Friday to discuss their private lives and pains and gains in their professional one. I have never experienced such freedom in a company. If you do not feel so great one day you may leave earlier, they trust that you put in the necessary work to meet a deadline. Additionally, if they see that you are really stressed the two ladies that own Blyde will organize a meeting with you to talk about how you can reduce the stress by planning, disabling notifications from your e-mail, and many more useful tips. Overall, my experience at Blyde was a great one. I was, however, unprepared for the amount of work that this would be and my lack of time management became evident. Due to a lot of personal circumstances, this internship became too stressful and I had to stop prematurely. Despite the challenges I was facing, these ladies made me feel strong, secure, and loved. I have gained a lot of new skills and knowledge and I am glad I was a part of their team for a while. Hopefully, others will know how much fun and how rewarding PR can be after reading this blog. As the photo shows, the two owners know sure do know how to have fun!
