A Typical Day as a Marketing Intern at Hunkemöller

You may have wondered how the daily life of a person working in the fashion
business looks like. After all, this is the dream of many girls growing up. My name is Nora
Krasteva, and I will tell you what my typical day working at Hunkemöller looked like.
Hunkemöller is a lingerie company with headquarters in the Netherlands and I worked as an
intern in the Social Media Marketing department for 6 months, responsible for Community
Engagement and research.

Working in marketing can be the goal of many. Marketing is also vital for any
company nowadays, as the competition is massive and does not allow for many downfalls.
However, the fast-paced environment and pressure can overwhelm almost anyone who has
not worked in such a setting. Especially an intern who is just starting. You get thrown into the
deep and you have to find your way through. But luckily, there is always help at your
disposal and, in the end, learning by doing is the best way to grow.

Communication Science is very theoretical, and an internship is a perfect way to see
how communication within a corporation works from your own perspective. Internships are a
way to see whether the profession you are aiming at is the right one for you, to meet great
people and create a network, and practise all of the skills learned at university.

Let me tell you how my days went by at Hunkemöller. First of all, I should tell you
that no day is the same and it never gets boring. Working in social media, I had to keep up
with all the new campaigns and events that were happening. The days were dynamic and
went by fast. The first thing in the morning was to check the comments and direct messages
on all social platforms. Besides engaging the customers and fostering a two-sided relationship
with them, all negative comments had to be addressed, sticking to the brand values and
societal position.

Also, almost every day there was a presentation to work on. These could vary from a
weekly update, preparing the deck for the Marketing & Communications meeting, or a
campaign performance analysis. Furthermore, some analytics had to be filled out weekly and
research on social media innovations had to be performed regularly. Moreover, there were
daily meetings to catch up with the team, and also to learn from superiors. If it was an office
day, coffee breaks are a must. Let’s not forget the fun part!

All in all, the internship is a fun and beneficial way to put theoretical skills into practice. I would recommend the fashion business to everyone who loves being in a fast-
paced environment and engaging in challenges.
