A Fun Day Working at a Silicon Valley Startup

GoodTrust is a digital legacy company. They offer assistance in helping people plan what happens to their social media life – their Instagram photos, Facebook conversations, Twitter posts etc. Would you like your mother to have access to your Facebook when you die? Probably not, but what you might care for is your sister or brother having access to your iCloud so your memories can be kept as a piece of you. GoodTrust specialises in this and as their first intern it was difficult to find my place in a fast moving organisation.

A fun and productive day working for a silicon valley startup in an online setting goes as follows:

  1. My time 9:00 is when the majority of the team in San Francisco and New York is still sleeping so I will go over the discussion in our Slack page that I missed whilst I was sleeping. The discussions usually don’t make a lot of sense to me because it is usually tech talk about a new product.
  2. Today we are launching a new service which creates fun animations of photographs bringing them to life. this service is called ‘GoodTrust Memories’ which is a technology developed by an Israeli company. Many death planning industry companies have started offering this technology to their consumers and now we are too.

Here is a screenshot of service: Go check it out!

  1. We already had a meeting last week to talk about the branding and marketing so I know what to do.
  2. I start comparing other companies that also offer this new service with how GoodTrust would want to showcase this service.
  3. My task today is creating the FAQ page for the service
  4. I will look at other FAQ pages from other companies to be inspired but mainly I rely on what kind of questions I would have if I was a new user
  5. I start writing all questions that come to mind like “what is this?, why would I use this service? Is my information I upload to GoodTrust safe?, Can I share the animations? Can I change the kind of mimics (smiling, nodding) used in the animations?”
  6. I fully dive into the role of a new user to analyse the new product.
  7. Next, I answer the questions by reaching out to my team for questions and by looking at other companies who offer the same service.
  8. I now switched between the role of a new user to a ‘GoodTrust Memories expert’

Here is my finished product:

  1. After doing so, I have a call with the content creator and cofounder to go over any adjustments.
  2. The product is launched! My FAQ is the first thing you see on the new website
  3. Day = over
