A Day in the Life of a Heineken Intern: Crafting Global Safety Week 2024

One of the most memorable days during my internship was when I played a key role in the elaboration of Global Safety Week, an internal campaign designed to prioritize and promote safety among employees. Here’s a glimpse into that day!

Morning: Kicking Off

I arrived at the office early, eager to dive into the tasks ahead. The first item on my agenda was a brainstorming session with the external marketing agency responsible for crafting the campaign.

During the meeting, we discussed various elements of the campaign, from catchy slogans and engaging visuals to interactive activities that would resonate with employees across different departments. I was encouraged to share my ideas and contribute to the creative process. It was exciting to see how my suggestions were valued and integrated into the campaign strategy, specifically my idea of having individuals from all locations across the globe be present in the official campaign video.

Mid-Morning: Team Catch-up

Next up was a meeting with the internal team. This group included colleagues from different areas of the company, all dedicated to making Global Safety Week a success. Our discussions were centered around aligning the campaign’s objectives with Heineken’s core values and ensuring that every detail was meticulously planned.

We delved into the logistics of the campaign, including scheduling events, coordinating with department heads, and preparing communication materials. It was really nice to witness how each team member brought their unique perspective and expertise to the table. The collaboration was seamless, and it was clear that everyone was committed to fostering a culture of safety within the organization.

Lunch: Refueling with Colleagues

Lunchtime provided a welcome break and an opportunity to connect with my fellow interns at the cantine in the Head Office. We shared stories about our projects and experiences, and I found it inspiring to hear about the diverse range of initiatives happening within Heineken.

Afternoon: Fine-Tuning the Details

After lunch, it was time to dive back into the details. I joined another session with my supervisor to review the campaign’s visual elements proposed by the agency. We analyzed mock-ups of posters, digital banners, and video scripts, providing feedback to ensure they effectively conveyed our safety message.

One of the highlights of this session was reviewing a the official campaign video. This video featured Heineken employees sharing personal stories about safety at the workplace, creating a relatable and impactful narrative. I suggested a few tweaks to enhance the authenticity and engagement of these videos, and it was rewarding to see my input taken seriously.

Late Afternoon: Wrapping Up with Reflection

As the day drew to a close, I attended a final debrief with the internal team. We reviewed our progress, identified any remaining tasks, and set priorities for the coming days. This wrap-up session was crucial for maintaining momentum and ensuring that everyone was on the same page.

Being actively involved in the elaboration of Global Safety Week was not only a valuable learning experience but also a testament to the trust and responsibility Heineken places in its interns. I gained insights into campaign management, teamwork, and the importance of safety in the workplace.
