A Day in the Life: Behind the Scenes as a Global Employee Communications Intern

Welcome to a glimpse of my day as a Global Employee Communications intern! As people always ask me, “what’s your day-to-day like during work?” or “What’s your daily routine, I have to explain that this position barely has a thing as “daily routine”. Each day brings new challenges and exciting opportunities to connect, inform, and engage with employees across the globe. Join me as I take you through a typical day in my role.

Morning Routine:

It’s Thursday office day, my day usually starts early, around 8:00 AM. The first thing I do is grab a cup of coffee and review my calendar. If there’s no early meetings in the morning, then I can have a relative chill morning.

Arrive at the office and getting started:

By 9:00 AM, I’m already at the office. I normally greet my colleagues and have some small talks with them, this usually takes about thirty minutes. Then, it’s time for me to deep dive into my email inbox and list out the tasks to be done for the rest of the day and put them on my daily to-do list.

Midday:

Around noon, I attend a brainstorming session with our team. We’re planning for the upcoming Global Town Hall and we meet together to discuss the feedback from the last Town Hall, pick up important topics for the upcoming Town Hall and draft the agenda.

Lunch Break:

At 12:00, I take my lunchbreak. Sometimes, I join colleagues in the cafeteria or go for a lunch walk to the nearest Italian eatery, we exchange stories and talk about interesting things or projects at work. Other times when I’m busy with tasks to deliver, I use this time to continue working on the tasks while having my sandwich.

Afternoon:

Alongside delivering the tasks I have for the day, I have my 1-1 with my manager in the afternoon. I usually prepare a list of projects that I finished in the past weeks and explain the results. Then I will also create a list of projects that is relevant to my team and ask my manager which one of them is appropriate for me to join in and help. The catch-up is usually 30 minutes.

Reflections and Wrap-Up:

As the day winds down, I reflect on the tasks or projects I’ve completed. I put a tick on the to-do list and go through my emails again to ensure that the emails are replied. For the tasks that need further adjustments, I update all colleagues relevant to the project my current stand and give them a estimates finishing time.

Closing Thoughts:

Being a Global Employee Communications intern is both rewarding and challenging. Each day gives new opportunities to learn and grow, both personally and professionally. I’m grateful to be part of a team that values collaboration and creativity, teaches me a lot of skills and value my ideas.

Thank you for joining me on this journey through a day in my life as a Global Employee Communications intern!
