A day in the life at HarperCollins Holland

I hit the record button and start my day. First a fit check and then I take the bus to the office in the west of Amsterdam. This day I’m filming a “come to work with me” video for the brand new HarperCollins Holland TikTok. Once I arrive at the office around nine, I say hi to my colleagues and let them wave to the camera. After answering some questions about what kind of social media Gen Z thingy I’m doing today they’re all already excited for the results. Once the morning buzz of “Good morning all!” and “How was your weekend?” dies down I open my email and calendar to catch up on what I’ve missed and to plan for the day ahead.

I busy myself with answering some emails from book bloggers and press who wish for a collaboration until all the marketers and I head to the meeting at eleven. Together with the editorial team, we brainstorm creative ways to improve cover designs and discuss the new authors that we have signed over coffee and pastries. Afterwards, all thirty-five of us head to lunch to see if the downstairs canteen has finally updated their menu– not yet. I grab myself a chicken wrap and a cookie and head back upstairs to chat with my colleagues. “Have you read this rom-com yet?” “My favourite couple on Temptation Island are fighting” “I’m pregnant!”. The conversations range from anywhere to everywhere and before I know it it’s time to get back to work.

I take loads of pictures of books to post on the social media accounts next week and brainstorm all the captions. Afterwards, I’m sending out a fresh bunch of press releases for the new books that have been published. Now it’s time to package all the influencer- and press packages. Fold, tape, next one. And so on for about 30 packages. All the while documenting it for TikTok of course. Before I know it it’s time for the next meeting at two, together with my marketing colleagues we discuss and brainstorm promotion campaigns and write down each of our tasks for the upcoming book releases. Naturally, the meeting goes about 30 minutes over time due to the endless chatter of my colleagues.

Once the meeting’s over I head back to my desk to get through the endless emails of the press and bloggers. A new review copy is offered to a blogger in exchange for a post and another five copies are promised to a magazine for a giveaway campaign. After I’ve combed through about half of the emails I notice that it’s already five-thirty and that half of the office has gone home already. I quickly finish some more emails, film some more content for TikTok and then head back home as well.

Tomorrow our best-selling author Karin Slaughter is coming to visit the office and to hold a meet and greet with some lucky readers. Guess who will be documenting it all and getting herself a signed copy of Karin Slaugher’s newest book? This girl.
