It’s seven thirty in the morning and my alarm goes off. Time to head to the office and start my day!
My role as a social media intern for a young and upcoming high-end fashion brand Gauge81 extends beyond working hours, as well as the office. Gauge81 is a high-end women’s clothing label that brings back 90’s styles and plays with masculine silhouettes. The brand uses a lot of silk and satin fabrics, as well as bold colors in their pieces. My role mainly focuses on creating, posting and updating the brand’s social media platforms. It is important to always try to convey and highlight the brand’s essence and uniqueness throughout the platforms.
A typical day for me starts off at 9am at the office in Keizersgracht. The team is relatively small (10 employees) but the office is big and very well located. I make myself a cappuccino and start my day by checking the brand’s Instagram for any new direct messages or tagged posts received. It is important for me to always keep on track of any customer inquiries, as I am the only one actively managing the account. I also always keep an eye on our tagged posts in case we received a post from an influencer or celebrity we gifted. If I do see a post by someone well-known wearing our pieces I re-share it on our stories and add a link to our website.
After that I spend about an hour or two creating different collages and potential Instagram posts for both the stories and the feed. It is important to always keep the posts as interesting and as on brand as possible. I usually make around 4 variations of stories for the day and plan future feed posts. However all the posts need to be approved by my supervisor before being posted, which usually means several changes have to be made until it looks exactly how she wants it.
After that I usually eat lunch which is something I brought from home or I go out to get lunch with my colleagues. I enjoy going out for lunch with them because they are super nice and it is nice to get some fresh air.
After I am back I spend about an hour or two looking for new influencers or celebrities that I think would nicely represent our brand. Later in the week I propose about 30 to 40 “it girls” that we should gift based on their following and aesthetics. I also pack any order we received from our webshop and any pieces we are gifting to influencers or celebrities. Some of the most exciting packages I’ve made were to Ariana Grande, Beyonce and Drew Barrymore. It’s always a thrill hand-writing a thank you letter and packing the outfits that are going to such influential people.
Finally, I take some time to look at the Instagram insights and analyze how our past posts have been doing in terms of reach and likes. I present monthly to the boss and owner of the company the analytics and my digital marketing strategy for the next month. After adding the data to my presentation. It is usually time to go home and get some rest!
Oh wait! I can’t forget to post on the brand’s feed at 8 pm, as it’s prime time for engagement and visualization!
After that I can finally rest and start it all over again tomorrow..
