Internship at Warner Bros International Television Productions
Being single is difficult. There are a lot of things that come with being single and that’s why people are always looking for a relationship; there is always someone to talk to and to cuddle with. Looking for a relationship can be hard since there is a huge variety of dating apps all with different purposes.
Especially during a pandemic, dating is difficult; a lot of people are only seeking attention and therefore it seems almost impossible to find a serious partner online.
Luckily, there is another way to find the love of your life; the television program First Dates!
I am sure many of you know either the English, Australian, or maybe the Dutch version, but for the people who don’t I will explain the concept:
Two people are looking for love, and are being matched to another person. They are being set up to have a blind date. First, one person sits at the bar, orders a drink, and has a chat with the bartender. After a while, the other person walks in, they see each other for the first time and talk a little while still sitting at the bar. When sitting at the table, they have a three-course meal while their conversations are being recorded. And at the end of the date, they get the question of whether they want to see each other for a second date, or not.
My internship was at Warner Bros, the producer of First Dates in The Netherlands. During my internship I did mainly editorial work for this program; casting the candidates, sometimes I helped to make a match and, I helped during recording days. The latter was the nicest part for me since I liked to see the people I had been casting and talking to them in real life.
This is what a typical recording day looked like:
The team mostly started at 9:30 am while the first candidate arrived at 11:00. Because of the pandemic, multiple measures had been taken; everyone had to wear a face mask and the candidates and specific people of the staff were being tested for Covid at the start of the day.
My tasks during these days varied, but one of them would be driving the candidates around from location to location and talking to them, making sure they are not too nervous. I often did some extra work on the side like calling the candidates of the days ahead to make sure everyone would still be there on time and didn’t have any corona-symptoms.
The working-day mostly ended around 11:30 pm, but we could compensate with other days of the week.
Working here has been amazing; it is something I have been wanting to do for a very long time and, luckily, I have been able to stay within the company and do some more work for Warner Bros besides writing my thesis.
It has been great to be able to do my internship at a big company and I have learned more than I had would have imagined during these past 6 months.
For everyone who still has to find an internship: do something you think you will really like, it will make long days less hard. Also, you will learn a lot more when you are motivated and like the work that you do!
Please reach out to me if you have any questions about doing an internship!
