Holiday season at Bol.com

A workday at Bol.com is never boring. In the morning, I get up around 08.00 o’clock and take a shower. I then turn on my computer and a meeting with the whole ‘Speelgoed en Entertainment’ department (Toys & Entertainment) is about to begin. In the meeting are about forty people present who all represent different job functions at the department. We start with the question:

How are you feeling today?

Which we have to answer by choosing a color: Red, Orange of Green. Fortunately. nobody chooses Red. Some people choose Orange. They are asked why they are checking in Orange this morning. ‘I was awake for over an hour last night’ or ‘It is going to be a very hectic day today’ are the answers. Other people that checked in Green get to answer the question as well ‘The weather is good, I have a feeling this is gonna be a good day!’ or: ‘I already walked for over an hour today, so I am feeling quite well!’ are the answers. After the check-in, we proceed with the meeting. Some colleagues were on the ‘Bol.com news’ last week to give the whole of Bol.com more information about how the Toys & Entertainment department is doing during the holiday season. It was very fun to watch. They even get to go to the office! That is something we have not been allowed to do since the end of September. After this, the metrics are discussed in which we get an update on the recent sales and the forecasts that were made. We are doing quite well and are reaching our goals. Sinterklaas is very pleased, they say. Then we going on with the top three of last week: Ticket to Ride, the PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch are featured in it. They are bestsellers at the moment. We then proceed to an update about the promotional and campaign side of the department. They are doing good and it is time to promote all the Christmas albums. It is this time of the year again!

Next to this, the giveaways of Het Grote Speelgoedboek 2020 are finished. We had giveaways for specific popular toys brands such as PAW Patrol and gave away 10 sets of board games. But the real prize was the bucket list poster. Ten children won their whole list worth of 500 euros! I got to deliver the presents myself last Friday, a task that was very fun to do! The other intern (Michelle) and I get to drive through the whole country to deliver the toys to the children just in time for Sinterklaas! All in all, there were thousands of participants, 65 winners and 348 presents to give away because of Het Grote Speelgoedboek 2020. After this, we get an update on how the stock is going. It is going good and we can safely proceed!

Holiday season at bol.com

At the end of the meeting, we do a little energizer quiz to keep the fun going. Unfortunately, I am not in the top 3 winners. After the meeting I work on my research report and have lunch. I also go outside to walk for a bit, an activity I really like to do because sitting down all day is not that good for the body! It is time for a meeting with the Customer Journey and Content Specialists and we do another, more personal, check-in and give each other updates and ask questions to each other about tasks that we are doing. After this, I get to choose a winner from a #Retweet and #Win giveaway I did on the Bol.com Twitter account. I e-mail the winner and look up the statistics of the Tweet that was sent out. At the end of the day, I check the Bol.com Toys homepage again to see if it is still looking good and go to the program Watchdog, in which I check the products that have gone online today. If a product that for example is not a real Super Mario product is called or labelled Super Mario Nintendo, I change the content. I also check in the program Blue to see if there are any new customer cases that need my attention. At 17.00 o’clock I turn of my computer. That was another fun working day!
