Looking back on the past six months, I have seen my own growth, challenges, joy and satisfaction.
I decided to return to China as an intern in 2019. After tons of application, I interviewed with a Consulting company, located in Beijing, the capital city of China, for the position of marketing and communication. Fortunately, I got their offer for the position. However, no one expected the pandemic as it quietly arrived, and it disrupted all my original plan. Thus, I had to go back to my hometown first, and the company informed me that I could start working online for the first two months.
During the two months of working online, I got used to opening the computer to answer emails and communicate on the phone every day after getting up. This is my first job and I have many things to learn. Fortunately, I didn’t have any problems except the communication between colleagues was rather challenging.
When the epidemic situation in China improved, I flew all the way to Beijing. It was the beginning of my growth, because working in an office is a completely different experience than working from home. Due to the epidemic, our department has cut down a lot of work. In addition to being responsible for the company’s social media communication, writing articles and communicating with the Chamber of Commerce of France and Germany, I am also responsible for some administrative work. This is definitely a challenge for me. Time is often not enough, which pushes me to maximize my working efficiency in a short period of time.
My leader is a very careful and nice young lady. She often teaches me her work experiences when I work with her. I accompanied her on several business trips to meet some clients. I find that I can apply a lot of professional knowledge that I learned in communication science. Of course, what you need most is calmness and a smile. I believe this is the most essential tip I have learned from my leader.
All colleagues in our department also get along very well with each other. We often get together for lunch. I am very grateful to meet them in this company. We gradually got along and became good friends. Aside from work related topics, they also provided a lot of help for me in daily life. This is the first time for me to live in Beijing. I think I’ve had a good time with them.
At the end of the internship, I go through the work folders on my computer and count every project I’ve ever worked on. Although I’ve only contributed a little, I am still very satisfied with my growth during these six months, which is the result of my hard work. This position-marketing and communication is suitable for communication students to challenge, I recommend everyone to try in this field.
All in all, from the classroom to the office, I had a lot of worries and uneasiness at the beginning. After the experience, I want to tell you that it is not difficult at all, as long as we dare to ask, dare to learn, I believe you will also harvest your growth and satisfaction during your internship!
