Go green on Thursdays! That’s the motto of Afterwork by Heineken. If you don’t know what it is, just look at the name and it basically explains the concept. An after work drink hosted by Heineken at top locations in diverse cities in the Netherlands. A good place to network, spend time with colleagues and enjoy some (non-alcoholic) beers the day before your own company hosts their Afterwork ‘borrel’. I’d say, let’s all go after we’re done working on Thursdays!
Network Network Network
Now that we all have had some experience in diverse companies, we have learned that Friday afternoon drinks set for the perfect atmosphere to come in contact with new colleagues and enjoy some beers and bitterballs. One of the first things my dad told me when I started with my internship is to have a little small talk with people from your company. It is always good to let them know who you are, even when you’re just an intern. Networking will help you in your future career and especially as an intern its the best way to show your interest in a company. By showing your interest in what people do, whether within or outside the job, will make you look like a colleague they would want to work with. The Monday after, these colleagues will (probably) have remembered you and say hi to you in the hallways. Now it’s time to add them on LinkedIn. Don’t be shy, because these contacts might help you with your future career. So, lets network network network on after work drinks.
My Experience
During my internship I was responsible for the website and social media of the Heineken Afterwork events. Together with the freelancers from the Heineken Afterwork team I thought of new ideas for posts for social media. And together with the social media team I made sure the posts were placed on Facebook. Besides this, it was very important for me to keep track of the registrations of each event. Signing up for an event is free, but there is an online set amount for people to sign up and I had to make sure that not too many people would sign up. Because the Heineken Afterwork team consisted of freelancers, we were very free in posts that were made. We looked at each and every post with a wink to the brand Heineken. Since each city where an Afterwork is hosted has a different audience, you want to respond to the right audience. That is why the posts are also only targeted to people from the cities where that Thursday an Afterwork is hosted.
So why Afterwork by Heineken?
We all know the feeling after a long day at work desperate for some (non-alcoholic) drinks. Just treating yourself for all the hard work that you have done. This is why Afterwork by Heineken has been introduced. Heineken wants to treat all the hardworking people with a drink at a top location in the city. Saying cheers after the end of the day with your colleagues and other friends that also come to the venue is an amazing feeling, isn’t it? Now with the introduction of non-alcoholic beers, you don’t have to feel left out when people say cheers. Heineken hosted a special 0.0 edition during Dry-January to set a statement that you don’t have to drink alcohol on after work drinks and to say congrats to those who participated in the challenge.
For me Afterwork by Heineken was the perfect place to have some beers, meet new people and enjoy a night out!
