Metabolic is an Amsterdam based consulting company – but not just any! If you’re passionate about not just talking about climate change but actually doing something about it, this is your place. Founded just a couple of years ago by Eva Gladek, the company now has over 50 Metabolics who spend most of their day with figuring out how we can fix the environmental mess that humanity is currently in. I find that deeply inspiring, to see that people are working on real solutions to wicked problems. Whether it’s reducing the input of ocean-destroying fertilisers, finding new packaging solutions, or recycling massive streams of building materials – the game is on and people are fighting to find solutions!
At Metabolic, I was interning in the marketing and communication team. They are constantly busy with handling never-ending streams of incoming information, managing social media channels, improving the SEO score of their website, writing thought leadership pieces, organising speaking engagements at major industry events and so on and so forth! I was actually flabbergasted by how their head of communication is able to keep track of all those things at once. Chapeau! Throughout the internship I was able to assist with many of the tasks that I just referred to and thereby gained a great deal of practical experience. The work that I was doing was interesting and inherently valuable for the company’s mission, and that kept me going even when encountering diffculties. The company culture is totally awesome, everybody is super friendly and after work drinks at De Ceuvel (which Metabolic co-created!) were always super fun. If you’re reading this while looking for an internship, I would highly recommend Metabolic to everybody who has a strong interest in environmental issues (and how to fix them!), and who is up for working in a very ambitious and fast-paced, yet “gezellig” company 🙂
Cheers,
Lucas
