Are you interested in technology and do you enjoy contributing positively to the environment and reduce air pollution? Or are you striving to achieve affordable and clean energy in developing countries and explore the potential of alternative financing? Then absolving an internship at eDRV or Mynergy is a perfect match for you!
In August, I started my Communication and Marketing internship at Lighthaus B.V. which has two brands – eDRV and Mynergy which are both startups. I am mainly responsible for Marketing and Communication at eDRV. eDRV is a technology startup in the electric mobility sector which a cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) helping charge point operators manage their charging network via a centralized network operations center. Mynergy, on the other hand, offers equity and debt crowdfunding as a solution to enable distributed clean energy projects like solar rooftop and mini-grids across India. Are you still interested? Then read more to find out what your tasks will be.
Doing an internship at eDRV (and Mynergy) seemed like the perfect opportunity to gain working experience in a startup and to learn about entrepreneurship while practicing the communication skills I have acquired during my studies. But is it really how I imagined?
What I like about my internship is that I have responsibility and freedom. I am responsible for hosting social media accounts such as Twitter and LinkedIn. Particularly, I post one news article per day on both channels to create thought leadership but also inform the public about the startup’s achievements or which events the startup will attend in the future. In addition to social media, I am also involved in designing brochures and drafting content for blogs which will be published on the startups’ website and social media. Additionally, I am also responsible for tracking other companies and the latest developments in the electric mobility space as well as writing emails and hosting the event schedule for conferences or pitching events. Hence, I developed my practical communication skills and became more confident about social media posts and writing than before the start of my internship.
What is different than I imagined? I work mainly alone in Marketing and Communication, there is no hierarchy and it is appreciated when I come up with creative new communication ideas. This is also because the team has no academic background in Communication Science (experience yes!) and thus creativity, ingenuity, and learning by doing are required and appreciated. In a startup, one is sometimes also responsible for doing other tasks due to its fast-paced environment. For example, I wrote parts of the eDRV business plan or conducted a total addressable market analysis in addition to my main daily tasks.
Do I enjoy my internship? Yes, the team is super nice, and I am developing new skills and knowledge in the communication sector. Beyond that, I am developing an understanding of the electric mobility sector and clean energy. However, I think I would develop my skills faster if I would work within a communication team but on the other hand, I learn how to work independently.
Overall, working in a startup is great if you want to have a lot of responsibility, less supervision and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. The eDRV (Mynergy) team is small and thus there is a friendly and casual environment. I recommend the internship to you if you are an independent worker, creative and a communication enthusiast but also interested in electric mobility and renewable energy.
Are you curious and do you have great ideas about how to spread the word about the startups’ impact, achievements, and goals? Then why wait for applying?
