My Journey as an Intern at the International School of Sion

My Journey as an Intern at the International School of Sion

My role seemed straightforward on paper for my three-month internship at the International School of Sion: manage social media content and support the school’s online presence. However, this experience turned out to be a rich tapestry of learning, exploration, and personal growth.

Crafting the School’s Digital Presence

My primary responsibility was to create and manage social media content that promoted the school. This wasn’t just about posting updates; it involved a blend of graphic design, multimedia production, and creative writing. I designed visually appealing graphics, shot and edited photos, and produced videos to support content across platforms like Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Each platform required a tailored approach, ensuring that the content not only reflected the school’s voice but also resonated with its diverse audience.

Writing was another significant part of my duties. Crafting compelling and grammatically correct posts, captions, and articles required a keen understanding of the school’s ethos and the interests of our followers. It was a challenge to maintain consistency and creativity, but it was immensely rewarding to see the engagement grow and the positive feedback from the community.

Exploring Sion and Its Treasures
The opportunity to tour the stunning village of Sion was one of the expected benefits of my job. Tasked with shooting photos for content, I found myself wandering through its beautiful streets, capturing the essence of this charming town. The castles, churches, vineyards, and forests provided a stunning backdrop for my photography, and I soon realized that this part of the job was as much about personal discovery as it was about professional duties.

The medieval castles of Sion, with their rich history and breathtaking views, became some of my favorite subjects. Each visit was a chance to cross back to the past and imagine life in those ancient walls. The town’s vineyards, especially during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset, offered a serene and almost magical landscape. Taking deep breaths in the forest remind me how the natural smells after living in Amsterdam for two years.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

My research on crisis communication and management strategies in international schools was another significant aspect of my internship. This research allowed me to delve into practical strategies that complement the theoretical knowledge I gained at university. Understanding how schools handle crises, communicate with stakeholders, and maintain trust was enlightening. It added a layer of depth to my role, as I could see the broader impact of effective communication in real-time.
