My Marketing Internship Experience at Carhartt

During my six-month internship at Carhartt, a renowned American workwear brand, I had the unique opportunity to immerse myself in the dynamic world of marketing. Carhartt is celebrated for its durability, functionality, and rugged style, with a rich history dating back to 1889. What made this internship particularly rewarding was the company’s commitment to ethical production practices and environmental responsibility, values that resonate deeply with me.

Collaborating with the Marketing Team

My role in the marketing team was multifaceted, collaborating with five dedicated members: social media, content, retail marketing, public relations specialists as well as the marketing manager. Each team member had a distinct role, and I supported them in various tasks!

Working with Brand Ambassadors

One of the most exciting parts of my internship was maintaining communication with Carhartt brand ambassadors, from diverse occupations such as woodworking, ceramics, farming, and skatepark construction, contribute content for our social media platforms. My responsibilities included assisting in ordering items for ambassadors to showcase in promotional videos, coordinating requests for specific content, and ensuring the functional aspects of the clothing were highlighted.

Assisting in Photoshoots

I had the opportunity to contribute to photoshoots, assisting the content specialist in selecting appropriate clothing, creating outfits, and managing models. Ensuring the accurate representation of the brand was crucial, and I enjoyed the blend of practical implementation and creative thinking involved in this process 

Supporting Public Relations and Retail Marketing

In addition to photoshoots, I supported the PR specialist by coordinating with our PR agencies in the UK, Netherlands, and Germany. This involved providing images for articles, reviewing proposed designs for collection workbooks, and assisting in the development of seasonal workbooks. Working closely with colleagues in retail marketing, I helped ensure the brand’s values were represented in store signages, product presentations, and sales meetings, enhancing my understanding of retail marketing strategies.

Learning and Growth

This internship was a valuable extension of my studies in communication science. It provided practical insights into marketing strategies and the importance of understanding a brand’s target audience. I was able to recognize and apply various communication theories, enhancing my knowledge and skills in marketing.

The internship at Carhartt confirmed my interest in marketing and revealed a creative side I hadn’t fully appreciated before. The supportive and collaborative environment at Carhartt allowed me to grow professionally and personally. I learned a lot from my experienced colleagues and gained valuable insights into the organizational structure of a well-established company!
