It sounds cool to work at a huge, world-renowned company that everyone knows the name of. You have an incredible office, amazing networking opportunities and a whole bunch of perks. However, it can be difficult to see the impact of your work, since it can feel like you are just a cog in a machine. You can surely see the fruits of your efforts in a start-up company though, – where you can closely work with several people and build the company from the ground up. However, some people might find it stressful to work in an unstable environment, not getting enough benefits and/or not being secure about their future. However, you don’t have to choose – just have the best of both worlds like I did while being a Brand Marketing Intern at Catawiki.
Catawiki is an online auction platform, where you can find thousands of valuable objects selected by experts: from ancient sculptures to modern paintings. The company has more than 800 employees, several offices in different European countries and a cozy office in Amsterdam right near the Rokin metro.
I was a Brand Marketing, Social Media and Content intern at Catawiki: I was mostly responsible for Social Media Management, creative briefing of in-house studio team, conducting benchmarking research, organising the Social Media publishing calendar, creating assets for social media channels and setting up Facebook and Instagram ads. What I liked most about my internship is that I was given an opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks: from operational and organisational ones, to the ones where my creativity and analytical thinking could shine. It was very important for me to have an internship where I could have a chance to truly develop as a professional and gain understanding of the way that marketing works in the world of business – and I was not disappointed. While Catawiki has been around for more than 15 years, they are still constantly changing and developing, trying to find new approaches and create new strategies. Because of this, everyone’s input and ideas are highly valued and encouraged. The environment and culture of Catawiki allowed me to express my ideas without fear or embarrassment, knowing that they can make an impact. My supervisors were also keen on answering any questions I had about the way that the company runs, the key objectives and about the decisions that were being made. I was given a chance to dive deep into the company’s marketing strategy, understanding why certain choices are being made from a business perspective.
To conclude, I would like to say that I truly enjoyed my experience at Catawiki and feel confident recommending this company to fellow students. I grew as a professional and gained a thorough understanding of inner processes in a corporate environment.
