A journey into the world of kids’ collectibles and loyalty campaigns

Hello everyone, my name is Naqiya, I’m an international student from Indonesia in her third year as a Communication Science student at the University of Amsterdam. For the past six months, I have spent my time interning at UNGA as a marketing intern, and in this blog post, I’m going to tell you all about it.

First, I’m going to be giving a little background on the company that I’m interning for. UNGA is a company that provides retailers globally with short-term loyalty campaigns tailored for kids and families, featuring toys, collectibles, and educational concepts. So essentially, UNGA as a company conceptualizes and manufactures loyalty programs, featuring collectible rewards for kids ranging from plush toys to puzzles. Truthfully, when I started to work for this company, I was clueless about what loyalty campaigns are. I felt like I was going into the world of the unknown, as the industry was completely new to me. But as time goes by, I now can say safely that I know about what loyalty campaigns are, the mechanisms behind them, and the hard work that goes into making these loyalty campaigns come to life. So in the future, if you go to supermarkets, and see that you get a reward for every certain minimum purchase, that’s what a loyalty campaign is!

During my time as a marketing intern at UNGA, I had various tasks to manage. The main task was to conduct market research for loyalty campaigns from retailers worldwide for the company’s internal database. This data will be then analyzed for trends after each quartile. Other tasks that I did for this company were to do content management for marketing purposes to UNGA’s audience (retailers and partners). Specifically, I created content for UNGA’s website and conducted website optimization so that people could read UNGA’s content more efficiently on their website. As for the environment, the office was also such fun to work in because it was filled with so many kids’ toys and decorations, and was not what I expected a corporate office to look like. To boost, we also had a chef who cooked so many delicious foods for us at the office. So, that was a plus side of working at this company.

To conclude, my time at UNGA was an incredible and insightful learning experience. As my first experience in a professional setting, it was a total shock at first. I had a hard time adjusting to the environment, especially being one of the only interns at the company. However, as time went by, I adjusted more to the professional setting, as everyone was very kind and willing to teach so that I could develop myself better. I came out of this internship, with so many new skills and experiences that I think I would not have had if not for this internship, and for this, I’m so grateful for the opportunity.
