Hi everyone! My name is Chiara, and I am a third-year student in the bachelor of Communication Science at UvA. As I am in my last semester, and I am currently finalizing my internship at the Lucas Bols Company as a brand management and digital marketing intern, I wanted to share with you my experience!
The Lucas Bols Company
The Lucas Bols Company is a worldwide leading player of spirits and cocktails. It is one of the oldest Dutch companies to be still active, with the mission of creating amazing cocktail experiences around the world. They are present in more than 110 countries and have more than 20 premium brands. Some of their most well-known products are Genever, Bols liqueurs, Passoã and Galliano. However, their range also includes Vodka, Tequila and other local brands. With their history, this year they are celebrating 450 years of distilling and bending spirits and cocktails. As an intern in this company, I was a part of the global team, meaning supporting the Bols liqueurs, Genever, and Vodka, mainly.
A day in the life as a brand management and digital marketing intern
My day usually started around 9am, where I would go to the office to work. Every day you can sit in a different place, which is nice to change your working environment. Throughout the day, it is common to have meetings with my team, to discuss ongoing projects.
It is hard to explain what a usual day looks like, because I had the opportunity to experience many different projects, also with colleagues from different departments. For example, I got to support the organization of a competition and event for bartenders. Here, we had to come up with the perfect 4-day plan for bartenders, and I had to be in constant contact with the markets participating in the competition. I got to learn how to use Photoshop and Shopify for my digital marketing tasks, where I helped with the creation of the new website. I also supported the organization of a photoshoot for a product, which was very creative. Moreover, I created some digital content for our new TikTok account which was very fun to do.
I could continue, but the thing is there were many projects I helped with, which made the days different and exciting!
For lunch, we all eat in the cafeteria, where you have the chance to get to know all your colleagues better. After lunch, I would usually get a coffee and keep working on the projects I mentioned above. At around 5pm, the working day was finished, and I usually walked back home to do some movement.
In general, I really enjoyed my internship at the Lucas Bols Company. Everyone is very nice and always available if you need help. The team is not too big, which helped with getting to know all colleagues. Also, the office is very pretty, creating a good working environment. I am happy I was able to join their team and learned a lot for sure. I am excited for the future and hope this gave you a glimpse of what my role entailed!
