Hi fellow students!
My name is Alessia Zenobio, I’m a third-year Communication Science student, and I was an Intern at Wonderind during the last semester of my Bachelor.
To give you some context, here’s a brief introduction to the company: settled in Amsterdam, Wonderkind stands at the forefront of recruitment advertising technology. With a dynamic team of over 50 employees, the company excels in automating audiovisual job advertisements across online media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google.
In 2023, Wonderkind pivoted its business model, developing a new, scalable software application dubbed “Inspire“. The new platform saves users manual labor while expanding their reach to qualified candidates, moving beyond traditional recruitment methods to leverage the full potential of online media channels.
My role at Wonderkind
During my internship at Wonderkind, I was a part of the Digital Marketing domain within the Partner Success team. Our department’s mission is to ensure clients’ campaigns run seamlessly and achieve their objectives. My responsibilities were varied, providing a broad spectrum of experiences in digital marketing:
- I set up and optimized campaigns based on client preferences, which gave me hands-on experience in crafting impactful digital advertising strategies
- Weekly tasks involved reviewing campaigns, fixing errors, and reporting back to clients.
- I collaborated closely with Partner Success Managers, contributing to both strategic planning and execution.
- I conducted marketing research to keep our clients updated on the latest trends in online recruitment.
Learning and growth
My internship at Wonderkind was a mixed bag of experiences, providing both valuable learning opportunities and notable challenges. I aimed to apply my communication science knowledge practically, but found limited opportunities to do so extensively.
Despite initial disappointment, I took proactive steps to engage in projects where my skills could shine, such as participating in research initiatives and refining internal communication processes. These efforts brought a sense of accomplishment and demonstrated the importance of perseverance and adaptability.
Some highlights…
Expanding my knowledge in social media optimization and marketing research was a significant highlight. I learned to navigate organizational structures strategically. However, I felt that the onboarding process could have been more supportive, and a general disinterest from other employees towards interns was disheartening. This made integration into the company’s culture challenging.
Despite these hurdles, I remained determined and sought out new projects and responsibilities, fostering personal growth and achieving a deeper understanding of digital marketing dynamics.
Conducting research was particularly rewarding, as it improved my skills in data collection and analysis, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. My university research project, inspired by Wonderkind’s channel validation objective, allowed me to explore valuable online channels for their new platform, enhancing my marketing-driven research capabilities.
How did this internship impact me?
My experience at Wonderkind, despite the initial struggles, ultimately solidified my passion for marketing. The challenges I faced pushed me to deepen my understanding of digital marketing dynamics and honed my problem-solving skills. This journey of growth and discovery inspired me to pursue further education in the field. Motivated by my time at Wonderkind, I applied for a master’s program in Global Marketing and was thrilled to be accepted. This next step in my academic and professional journey will allow me to build on the foundation I gained during my internship, equipping me with the advanced skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the ever-evolving marketing landscape.
