Hey there, fellow students! 🎓✨
I’m a third-year Communication Science student who recently wrapped up an incredible internship at Swapfiets, and I’m here to share my experience with you all. If you’re on the lookout for an internship that’s fun, challenging, and incredibly rewarding, then keep reading because Swapfiets might just be the perfect place for you!
My Role at Swapfiets
As a Creative Intern, my role was dynamic and filled with various exciting projects. I was responsible for crafting engaging content for social media and different platforms. This included everything from writing short-form copy for Instagram posts to long-form content for direct-to-consumer email marketing. But that’s not all! I also brainstormed innovative ideas and generated content for Swapfiets’ digital and Out Of Home campaigns.
One of my favorite projects was working on a spin-off of the “You Too” meme for our social media. This post performed so well that it was boosted and then turned into an ‘always-on’ campaign for brand awareness. How cool is that? Another highlight was spearheading the social media ads for the IntroWeeks campaign. This involved writing scripts, booking talents, arranging shooting locations, and more. Although the campaign is yet to go live, I received great praise from my colleagues for my work, which was super rewarding!
What I Learned
This internship was a fantastic learning experience. Here are just some of the key takeaways:
- Copywriting Skills: Transitioning from magazine writing to brand-focused copy was a learning curve, but it was incredibly rewarding. I learned to write with Swapfiets’ tone of voice, which was crucial for creating effective marketing content.
- Video Production: I got hands-on experience with video production, including shooting and editing. Although video editing was initially challenging, I improved significantly and learned the importance of collaboration.
- Social Media Trends: Staying up-to-date with social media trends was crucial. I learned to analyze the performance of posts and boost the successful ones, which is a valuable skill in today’s digital marketing world.
- Project Management: Managing multiple projects and deadlines taught me the importance of organization and time management. I learned to create detailed work-back schedules, which ensured I met all my deadlines.
My Internship Research
I conducted my research on how the type of social media post (either traditional social media posts, or memes) effected purhcase intention, with brand relatability as a mediator variable. It was amazing to get some statistically significant results too. I found that whilst brand relatability did not explain this, memes lead to higher purhcase intention than traditional social media. Swapfiets will now be taking this into considerationan and using memes as part of there digital marketing efforts!
